JFK gave best speech of his life, this week 1963, at American University:
“If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. . . .We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."
The legend of young Drake Maye began with plays like this run (sound on), back when he was 8 years old and running wild in an obscure youth football league in Huntersville, NC.
With the help of friends, I’ve unearthed a lot of rare footage for @theobserver of those early days…
@NicoleAuerbach I heard former Coach Steve Logan talk this week about pre-season media hype that totally misses strengths/ weaknesses of teams & then reality sets in, coaches on hot seat because high expectations set by media not accurate. I know life is unfair, but this is tough to watch.
@_andrewcarter You the best in NC - sports, state reporting. Loved your reporting on Peanuts, Hampton Farms. Now I subscribe to the Chicago Tribune! Have you figured out who found film of Pope Leo at White Sox game? Was it intern who snagged the assignment or AI that ID'd Da Pope?
Why local news is so important: @dailyherald called up the Pope's brother in New Lenox, Illinois.
"“It was a shocking moment,” John said of hearing his brother Robert’s name announced. “I was on the phone with my niece and we both couldn’t believe it."

An emblem of hope, a rainbow cast its hues over Brookwood American Cemetery. 🌈
"As we saw this rainbow at Brookwood American Cemetery, we were struck by how beautiful it was to see the rainbow encompassing the graves, our flag and chapel, shared ABMC interpretive guide Beth Weiss. It was a poignant reminder to not forget the hardships our servicemembers and their families went through but to look towards the future and strive for the peace they fought for."
