.@NYC_DOT If you don't support universal daylighting, where can daylighting happen? Design isn't random. Certain kinds of intersections are made safer with certain treatments. Instead of just saying "no," help the council legislate this in a way that works.
"We have the tools to make intersections safer; what we need now is the investment to do it at scale. We’re calling on the city to commit $15 million for hardened daylighting so safer intersections become the norm in every neighborhood and every New Yorker benefits" - @saraklind
Don’t tell me there’s something Hoboken can do that NYC can’t.
Every day without daylighting is a day without safer streets. It works and it saves lives!
It's great to see creative activations happening for the World Cup!
However these programs will only be at existing school streets — of which there are only ~70 for NYC's 1,800+ public schools. @NYCMayor is missing a great opportunity to create more *NEW* public open spaces.
More than four dozen car-free school streets will be transformed into soccer fun zones, Mayor Mamdani will announce later on Monday in The Bronx. https://t.co/lRXVFaTnPJ
🎉🎉🎉 This morning we launched a campaign for a bike boulevard on Bergen & Dean Streets in Brooklyn with @BergenBikeBus

Shoutout to the incredible @BergenBikeBus which has been giving kids a safe, active way to get to school for years — this project isn't possible without them! A safe Bergen/Dean will be a game changer for Brooklyn commuters.
I'm shocked by the interaction I just had with Carl Heastie's office about the Stop Super Speeders bill - they were argumentative, defensive and had no answers to any questions about the Speaker's position on this.
Give him a call and see for yourself: 518-455-3791
Your calls are working. Speaker Heastie is feeling the pressure. KEEP IT UP.

Say you want the governor's Stop Super Speeders proposal in the budget.
I’m glad to see that @NYCMayor plans to keep World Cup watch parties on Open Streets! Public spaces like streets should be the front line of creating amenities and resources for all NYers to enjoy in their own neighborhoods. Details when @NYC_DOT@StreetsblogNYC ?
BREAKING!! Speaker Heastie may be blocking the lifesaving Stop Super Speeders bill.
So, we are working the phones today! You know what to do!
Call Speaker Heastie. Say you want the Stop Super Speeders Bill in the final budget: 518-455-3791
Then RT and let me know how it went.
A sea-change in posture. This is what mayoral leadership on the streets looks like and is the only way to achieve, at scale, streets that are ‘the envy of the world.’

New study: Curb extensions reduced crashes in Philadelphia. Additionally, based on typical costs it appears that they pay for themselves in safety benefits
Credit where credit is due: @NYC_DOT said they were going to figure out a way to save Open Streets dining, and by golly, they did

Mayor Mamdani is asked why he hasn't built back the Bedford Ave. bike lane, which his predecessor reversed.
He only says he will "follow up" with his DOT, does not commit to building it back.
Dispersing grant money to open street partners in advance is giant step forward for the program and makes it that much easier to run an open street. Kudos to @NYC_DOT for making this happen!

So much of this is canceling IT contracts which is a huge win for ending the endless grift of city contracting, particularly in IT. Technology work should be done by full time unionized workers, not consulting companies that disappear when the contract ends.
NEW: Mayor Mamdani announced that he will reduce speed limits on streets in front of 800 more public schools by the end of the year, a welcome expansion that underscores that slow implementation of Sammy's Law since it passed in 2024. https://t.co/QyS25RZkQ2
