🎂On the 60th birthday of #Uyghur professor Rahile Dawut, we have gathered messages from her friends, colleagues and former students.
Rahile was forcibly disappeared in 2017 and is reportedly serving a life sentence in #China.
Today we remember the many lives she has touched.
Happy belated Earth Day 🌎🌍
To care about humanity is to care about the world. Thanks to @NASAKennedy for the opportunity to spell in Landsat 🛰️

"I urge Amnesty International not to allow that silence to grow louder than our pain. My daughter is 15 today. I ask only that the world remembers she exists - and that she deserves her father."
We remember Shehribanu, and the continued Uyghur suffering of family separation.
Uyghur journalist, Tahir Imin, spent last Friday April 10 thinking of his daughter Shehribanu's 15th birthday. For nine years, he could not be with her to celebrate.
"She was six years old when I was forced to flee my homeland in 2017. She was a sweet, curious little girl."
@instagram Hey @instagram - can you please help us get our disabled account back? We’re certain it was flagged for breaking community guidelines in error.
We’re keen to move to Instagram but are reluctant to open another account when it’s unclear what the problem is.
You may have noticed that we're posting a little less than usual! While we're not leaving entirely, we have human rights concerns about this platform and are diversifying our social media engagement.

Two years ago, CCP's strict Covid-19 controls contributed directly to a tragic fire in #Urumqi, sparking peaceful demonstrations across multiple cities. Many were arrested, including Uyghur student #Kamile, Uyghur rapper #Yashar, and director #ChenPinlin.

Uyghurs who escaped China are no longer feeling safe in Türkiye - a place many consider a second-homeland. This is mainly because of arbitrarily assigned restriction codes where, among other migrants, Uyghurs end up having deportation decision & cancellation of their residency.
Part of what makes Amnesty SO GREAT is the local groups that meet to write letters advocating for individuals who have been unjustly detained - find your local group and join in 💛
Chinese #MeToo activist and journalist Sophia Huang Xueqin was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment for “inciting subversion of state power.” 19 September marks the 4th anniversary of her arrest — and also begins the one-year countdown to her release.

Today marks six years since Gulshan Abbas was disappeared.
We will not stop watching what happens to these Uyghur individuals: Amnesty will continue working on Uyghur human rights, and the eyes of the world are on the Uyghur region.
Yesterday marked five years since Gulshan Abbas' enforced disappearance.
Gulshan's family and thousands of others deserve justice, truth and reparation.

Five years ago, Zhang Zhan was arrested for courageously reporting on Covid-19.
She served four years in prison on the charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” Now she's been detained again, for social media that “seriously harmed [China’s] national image”.
🎂 Happy Birthday to Chinese journalist Zhang Zhan. She has now spent over one year detained on vague criminal charges, awaiting an unfair trial.
📢 We urge the Chinese government to immediately and unconditionally release Zhang Zhan.

China: Government’s crimes against humanity in Xinjiang continue as international community fails to act
‘The international community must honour the calls of survivors and act now to end repression in the Uyghur region’ - Sarah Brooks

It’s been 3 years since the UN report on China’s human rights violations in #Xinjiang.
Yet many #Uyghur families remain separated and searching for justice.
Governments must act now to end the repression and pursue accountability.
