WATERMELON GROWING TIPS🍉
1.deep plough with a tractor
2. Make planting stations of depth 20cm.
3. Put heaped shovel of well rotten manure of either cattle, poultry, pig or goat.
4. Put (60g) of Compound C on each planting station and mix with the manure and soil within the planting station
5. Put the soil to almost level of the planting hole.
6. Irrigate to field capacity on each planting hole. The following day plant 3 plants on each planting station
7. Do a light irrigation regularly until there's good germination. Check cutworm effect on young seedlings and if any, spray any one of the following insecticides:
Decis forte, chloroprifos, lambda. For me, l prefer decis forte since it is persistent in the soil compared to other insecticides. After 7days of seedlings emergence, remove one seedling per planting station leaving two seedlings per planting station.
8. 2weeks after germination, top dress with AN (34.5%N) cup 5 per plant not pagomba pagomba plus winstart (160g per 16 litre of clean water) or omni boost (300g per 16litre of clean water) for root development
9. At 4 https://t.co/T69zKCSoOq dress with Pottasium nitrate at cup 2 per plant plus start to apply winglow at 160g per knapsack or 16 litre of clean knapsack.
Winglow promotes vegetative cropping
At 5, 6, 7weeks start to apply winbloom at 160g of clear water or best broom from zfc. It promotes crop flowering
At week 6, apply cup 2 (2g), potassium nitrate.
At Week 8, apply calcium nitrate. During this crop stage- crop flowering, irrigate daily becaus crop water requirement increases.
10. Watermelon is very prone to attack by fruitflies hence there is need to spray the following insecticides:
1) thunder
2) Acetacure
3) Malathion 50EC
4) Nemesis
5) Cartap hydrochloride
NB: Rotate at three of the above insecticides at day 3-4 interval.
11. From a 2-leaf stage of the crop, spray Preventative fungicides in rotation:
1) copper oxychloride
2) bravo
3) mancozeb
This should be done on weekly basis on crop under drip irrigation
If the crop is under overhead irrigation, spray should be done on every 4-5 day interval
12. For curative fungicides, use at least one of the following:
1) chemlaxyl / ridomil gold
2) -tebuconazole / folicur
3) otiva
4) Bion
This should be done for every fortnight on crop under irrigation
If the crop is under overhead irrigation, apply for every week.
13. Spacing is 150 cm between the rows and 75cm from plant to plant
After practising these activities. You will be amazed with the results. Very big watermelons.!
I am assuring you to get 22kg per fruit with crimson sweet variety.
The agronomic practises and crop protection is similar for other cucurbits such as pumpkin kayla, Butternut Waltham Plus and cucumber.
At cucumber, spacing is 40cm x 100cm but placing one seed per planting station. This means that application rate per plant will be +30g of compound C.
Let’s grow better together
➡️ Don't let the pot boil.
Mugabe was a brutal dictator.
But he understood one thing: that while the water in the pot WOULD remain hot, it should never be allowed to BOIL. Because once it boils over, then it becomes difficult to control.
As faulty as Mugabe was, he had soft skills - a certain finesse. And above all, an understanding that brute force and bloodsport CANNOT be the solution to everything.
Remember - he ALSO had the army at his disposal.
He could have ALSO put a blanket ban on opposition, just ignored/disregarded election results and run a full-scale tyranny like ED is doing... 🤷🏾♂️
No - while we all know Mugabe rigged elections, at least he tried to do it in a sophisticated way that left us wondering HOW he did it.
Sometimes it was done in such a puzzling way that we were left claiming that he used foreign technologies that caused votes to migrate on the ballot paper! 😅
Maybe...🤷🏾♂️
While the judiciary was also largely captured during Mugabe's time, he still allowed a decent amount of victories to the People. Just so that there wouldn't be a COMPLETE disillusionment in the Judicial System.
Also, while our economy was ravaged, it was still fairly functional - even though at times, BARELY.
So WHY did he bother with all those things when he could have just used the ARMY to run the country under complete Marshall law for 30+ years???
It's because he understood that the SECRET to a long dictatorship is to allow people some continued hope, however small, and more importantly - allow them avenues to still make a living and feed their families.
And also to maintain a small degree of LIKEABILITY.
In other words - while the water is hot (the situation in ZIM), don't let it get to the point where it boils over and people feel they have no choice but to REVOLT.
*Enter Emmerson Mnangagwa:
For decades he watched and envied Mugabe and coveted the supreme role.
He saw the respect that Mugabe wielded widely, in ZANU PF and rural Zimbabwe, and indeed the continental Africa.
He wanted it.
He craved that recognition for HIMSELF.
He thought "I can do this. It's easy."
Not knowing that Mugabe made it LOOK easy, but the role of Dictator actually requires critical thinking, decision making, team-building, knowing when to give and take...
Soft-skills that ED does not possess in the slightest.
And so history was written. ED conspired with traitorous Army Generals to stab their Commander-in-Chief and President in the back, and take the throne.
But quickly Mnangawa discovered that trying to herd 15 million goats is not easy.
He lacked the skill and knowledge.
And so he resorted back to his NATURAL default, which is to be merely a obtuse instrument of brutality.
That was his role for over 40 years, after all. To be the blunt and ferocious enforcer of the party.
That's his only skill.
And being a President requires MANY skills, of which he possesses NONE.
Even his own party quickly realized that they had adopted a DUD.
In the recent elections MANY ZANU voters voted for a ZANU MP but voted Chamisa for President. They did the same in 2018!
He is INEPT as a President. Severely unqualified.
And so he makes up for his inadequacies by being imprudently cruel and retributive.
I mean, HOW is it possible that a widely respected MP, lawyer and opposition leader like Job Sikhala can be thrown in jail for more than a year for NO REASON??
Who does that??
What kind of inhumane brute could think to do such a thing?
What kind of person sends THUGS to abduct, beat, torture, rape and kill people for merely supporting a political party, other than your own??
It's BARBARIC!! In 2023?
Mnangagwa lacks EVERY quality necessary to be a leader of people.
He CANNOT create any kind of future for Zimbabwean youth.
He CANNOT fix the economy - he only wants to raid it.
He CANNOT secure food for millions of starving Zimbabweans.
He CANNOT fix healthcare, education or Infrastructure - he can ONLY make those worse.
Zimbabweans SEE that.
They voted for Chamisa. Chamisa WON by a large margin. And ED stole the election ONCE AGAIN.
But for too many - another 5 years of ED is UNIMAGINABLE. Is IMPOSSIBLE.
The pot may soon boil over. 🫕

Dear Election Observers,
Below find attached an example of how opposition election billboards are being burnt.
The only political party whose election billboards are not burnt is ZANUPF.
Why is this issue important?
The majority of Zimbabweans get their news from radio, and the rest from TV and Newspapers.
ZANUPF Government has turned public media (ZBC Radio and TV and Zimpapers Group) into State media where public media journalists get their instructions from the Ministry of Information.
The opposition has not been allowed anywhere near public media unless it is being insulted in endless propaganda rants.
So the only space where the opposition can engage with ordinary citizens is through these billboards, sadly ZANUPF leaders are paying thugs to burn them.
What does it mean of this election?
Can it be described as free, fair and credible when one side is not allowed to communicate with the citizens?
The irony is that the Zimpapers Newspaper Group was bought for
$5 million by the Nigerian Government in 1980, and given to the people of Zimbabwe as a gift.
What was meant to be a gift for the people of Zimbabwe has been turned into a propaganda machine nightmare against the people of Zimbabwe by ZANUPF.
Sadly the billboards too are being burnt down in what is supposed to be a democratic process to choose a leader.

Dear Election Observers,
Zimbabwe is going into a discredited election with political prisoners in jail.
Job Sikhala who is an opposition MP for the main opposition CCC and lawyer has been in jail for over 14 months without conviction.
The Zimbabwean judiciary has denied him bail, bail is a right according to the Zimbabwean constitution.
Job Sikhala’s only crime is speaking out against repression and violence against opposition supporters.
Jacob Ngarivhume was jailed for 4 years in May this year for calling for an anti corruption demonstration.
Something that is allowed and guaranteed in Zimbabwe’s constitution.
Please RETWEET so that the world knows the truth about these 2 men and how the election is a window dressing activity where the updated Voters Roll has not been released 8 days before the election.
I urge all genuine opposition leaders to talk about the plight of these 2 men as you address your rallies.
@nickmangwana Why not just licence her? At what point will being a Citizen of Zimbabwe be an advantage to the local people? Cannabis production was legalised in Zimbabwe. Why not avail a licence to these small scale producers in line with vision 2030?
