@CraigBrockie Non-ionizing radiation from phones & Wi-Fi doesn’t have enough energy to damage DNA like X-rays or UV. International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies it as “possibly carcinogenic,” but that class reflects uncertainty, not proven harm & even includes things like coffee.

Field walk @Jibberding brome grass trial with @LiebeGroup – 2 yrs into a 3-yr study.
👉 Rotation > herbicide inputs for control
✅ Barley & canola sequences (2-Yr Break) slash seed set
❌ Continuous wheat = worst outcome

Day 1 of WeedSmart Week 2025
Great to see growers more open to new tech and confident in managing resistance with a mix or rotation of strategies. Lots of practical insights today around resistance, soil constraints, and the Big 6 in action.

Barley Systems Beat Weeds!👊🌿😵
CoAXium® & Clearfield® barley systems were more effective in managing barley grass & brome grass than a standard non-Clearfield® herbicide combination used in wheat.
New research in 2023 & 2024 by @DPIRDWA, supported by @FaceyGroup, shows CoAXium® barley (Titan AX) + Aggressor® AX (quizalofop + a crop safener) wiped out 100% barley grass & 94% brome grass. 💪🌾
Clearfield® barley (Maximus CL) system using Intervix® or Intercept® or any similar products containing Imazamox and Imazapyr also packed a punch with 92% barley grass & 74% brome grass control.
As compared to a conventional wheat system, CoAXium® & Clearfield® barley systems provided:
✅ Better weed control
✅ Higher yields

Research on barley & brome grass control!
DPIRD trials, led by @harmy_dhammu with @FaceyGroup, show CoAXium & Clearfield barley outperform standard wheat herbicide programs, achieving 90-100% control of barley & brome grass.

Brome Grass Management in WA: Year1 Results
Barley (AX & CL) at Highbury reduced BG seed set (98%), outperformed lupins at Jibberding (79%), and vetch & chemical fallow nearly eliminated seedset at Cape Burney—wheat struggled.

Summer Weed Control✅
Our Narrogin trial on brome grass, supported by #GRDC, is in its 2nd year! #DPIRD's Dr. @harmy_dhammu, with @FaceyGroup, is testing integrated weed management—evaluating crop rotations, herbicide technology, and input levels vs. continuous wheat. Stay tuned!
@WeedSmartAU But we shouldn’t overlook the evolutionary perspective here. The initiation of secondary lateral shoots (as seen) can alter the leaf morpho-physiology & potentially shift the source-sink relationship, which might increase the weed’s resistance (NTSR) to multiple MOA over time. 🤔
@matthew_sparke@PBoutsalis@reiny2@WeedSmartAU I believe that the incomplete burial will still carry million seeds, which could cause you trouble next year with improved soil conditions. IWM is the key here, with pre-emergents helping to control early germination, and post-emergents targeting any remaining weeds. 😇
What an inspiring opportunity to attend the Drought Resilience Showcase hosted by the South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub! So much exciting research happening in drought research.
