@SyncreticNat @BrilliantMaps Fair point, but to me it’s plausible Australia has a an under reported proportion of people with British descent relative to Britain, because of the longer history of high levels of immigration leading to more people not even reporting it (like myself).

@SyncreticNat @BrilliantMaps You can be of partial British descent and not white - I know many people who are part Malaysian or Chinese for example who are of British descent and wouldn’t be considered white. Also plenty of white people who have 1-50% British ancestry.

@Nowooski I think they are gradually phasing it down. As the leadership and the people become more self assured they probably feel less of a need to be competitive in something they fundamentally don’t care about.

I think diet and lack of disease was more important initially. Also had the effect of the first generation born in Australia being smarter and forming their own more articulate accent than their parents, which was noted by a lot of British administrators from more privileged backgrounds than the immigrants. British people still don’t get much sun these days but they’re not short any more.

@xwanyex It’s an indicator of someone likely being middle class when they feel the need to emphasise aversion to low class habits and tastes. Upper class people typically wouldn’t be so insecure.

The full phrase is: “Evolution through random mutation and natural selection”. Random mutation introduces “newness”. But I think you can also achieve novelty through changes in gene frequencies that would result in certain combinations of genes that were virtually impossible (because of their rarity) becoming common.

@BLAKEYMCSHAKEY @slave_2_liberty @Combat_learjet @AurelBuia True, the battery was faulty, so the car couldn't reliably start the engine. That is not a safety issue when starting from a carport or parking lot, but becomes one when the engine turns off in the middle of a busy road.

@letsamcook_rs @slave_2_liberty @Combat_learjet @AurelBuia In Australia there are plenty of large, multilane roundabouts where the speed limit is 60km/h. It is also common for other drivers to illegally exceed the speed limit.
