#Ebola spreads fast, but clean hands stop it faster. Handwashing with soap kills the virus before it enters the body, protects families, and breaks the chain of transmission at the community level. Awareness is not optional; it’s lifesaving.

Dr @pkagurusi recent engagement on @BBCWorld highlights the urgency and coordination needed to contain #Ebola outbreaks. @Amref_Worldwide is strengthening response efforts in Uganda with a clear focus: rapid detection, community awareness, and equipping frontline health workers to break the chain of transmission. This reminds us that strong health systems and timely information save lives. Every action counts in preventing the spread.

Missing school was once routine for Susan.
Today, her experience mirrors a county-wide shift: absenteeism is down by 35% across the 100% WASH Project area.
The project, led by @Amref_Kenya and the well:fair foundation, has delivered safe water to over 150,000 residents and 19,000 students, creating healthier schools and breaking down barriers to learning.
Susan no longer misses school because of water and sanitation challenges.

As we mark the International #DayoftheAfricanChild, the #Future4Binti consortium calls for bold action to invest in children and ensure they grow up free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. Every child deserves the chance to dream, learn, and thrive. @NLinKenya@covaw
Through the #Future4Binti (F4B) project, we participated in the #DayoftheAfricanChild commemoration in several counties, reaffirming our commitment that every child deserves access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Future 4 Binti believes we can build a future where every African child learns, grows, and thrives with dignity. @NLinKenya
Misinformation can spread faster than a virus. When communities lack trusted information, fear and rumours can quickly undermine outbreak response efforts.
That is why @Amref_Worldwide is supporting community awareness activities across Uganda-DRC high-risk border districts through trusted local voices, health education materials, community dialogues, and outreach campaigns.
Every poster, leaflet, community meeting, and conversation helps ensure that facts reach people before rumours do. In the fight against #Ebola, information saves lives.

On the Day of the #AfricanChild, we shine a spotlight on the urgent need to ensure every child in #Kenya has access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, regardless of where they live.
Through our WASH project, we bring clean, safe water to communities, schools, and health facilities, transforming lives, promoting health, and restoring dignity. For girls, this means fewer missed school days and greater opportunities. In regions like Narok, Turkana and Kajiado, our work is more than service delivery; it’s a significant step toward equity, better hygiene, and giving every child the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

@Amref_Kenya joined a meeting convened by @MOH_Kenya for implementing partners to discuss how to enhance the country's preparedness against Ebola (EVD).
With the support of the U.S. Government, Amref's Imarisha Jamii programme is helping Kenya prepare so that if a case is ever suspected or confirmed, our health system can act fast to protect everyone.
Director General @DrPatrickAmoth put it simply: a strong, resilient health system is what keeps Kenyans safe ready to respond quickly and effectively if the need arises.
Thanks to U.S. Government support, this work focuses on four areas:
🔹Rapid response - training health workers to spot, track and contain cases early, and standing up teams that can scale up quickly.
🔹Infection control - equipping health facilities, preparing isolation spaces, building up protective equipment, and keeping care safe for patients and staff.
🔹Community awareness - sharing trusted information so families know how to protect themselves and what to do in an emergency.
🔹Coordination - connecting national and county teams and partners across borders so everyone responds as one.
At the heart of it all are communities. Through our Community Health Promoters across Kenya, Amref has built trusted relationships over decades and outbreaks are stopped fastest when people trust their health workers and their health system.

Every mother and every newborn deserves access to safe, quality care.
Yet across Kenya, challenges in workforce capacity, quality of care, facility readiness and accountability continue to affect maternal and newborn health outcomes. Data from the Kenya Quality of Care Report shows that approximately 40% of providers correctly manage postpartum haemorrhage and severe dehydration, while 37% of facilities meet all Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care standards.
These are not just statistics. They reflect barriers that can delay care, reduce quality and increase the risk of preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
Through the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (#EWENE) Rapid Results Initiative, @Amref_Kenya is working with county governments and partners to strengthen facility readiness, improve community awareness, support emergency referrals and reinforce accountability for maternal and newborn health outcomes in six high-burden counties.
Supported by @MPESA_FDN, @SafaricomFDN , the @StateDept, @UNITAID and Danida, this work demonstrates the collaboration needed to accelerate progress for mothers and newborns.
This week's #AmrefMaternalMonday takes a closer look at the systemic challenges affecting maternal and newborn health and why addressing them matters.

Health security starts with preparedness. Equipping frontline health workers to prevent and respond to #Ebola is essential to protecting communities and strengthening resilient health systems.
#Amref4HealthSecurity#HealthSecurity
@Amref_Worldwide is supporting government preparedness and response efforts to the #Ebola outbreak in high risk countries by training and equipping frontline health workers with essential protective gear and infection prevention supplies. This ensures safe delivery of critical health services, particularly in high-risk health facilities and border entry points. By sustaining adequate infection control resources, #Amref is helping to break the chain of transmission and safeguard both communities and health workers.

89% of births in Kenya are attended by skilled health personnel, yet maternal mortality remains at 355 deaths per 100,000 live births.
While more women are reaching health facilities, too many mothers and newborns are still being lost to preventable causes.
The Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (#EWENE) Acceleration Plan 2026–2028 is focused on closing this gap by strengthening quality of care, improving health system readiness and ensuring women and newborns receive timely care when complications arise.
Through the #EWENE Rapid Results Initiative, @Amref_Kenya is working across six high burden counties to strengthen facility readiness, improve community awareness, support emergency referrals and reinforce accountability for better maternal and newborn health outcomes.
This work builds on existing investments by partners including @MPESA_FDN, @SafaricomFDN, @StateDept , @UNITAID and Danida, demonstrating the sustained collaboration needed to accelerate progress for mothers and newborns.
Every mother. Every newborn. Every life counts.
