As Uganda commemorates #MartyrsDay2026, we honor the courage & sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs & salute today's heroes-the health workers, VHTs, surveillance teams, & responders leading the fight against #Ebola. Thank you @MinofHealthUG & frontline teams protecting us every day
To our health workers: Your courage saves lives & gives communities hope as you manage & treat Ebola. Every patient you care for, every contact you trace, matters deeply.Put protection first-use PPE correctly, wash hands, follow IPC. You are valued and needed. We stand with you.
“As we continue fighting for health and hygiene, there is one issue we must no longer ignore menstrual pain.”#MHMDay2026
Those powerful remarks during the 2026 International Menstrual Health & Hygiene Day National Conference at the @UNICEFUganda Innovation Centre highlighted a silent reality affecting thousands of girls across Uganda.
Menstrual pain is real. For many learners, it affects concentration, attendance, confidence, and overall wellbeing. In some communities, misinformation has dangerously convinced young girls that early sexual activity can stop menstrual pain a harmful myth that must be challenged through accurate health education and open conversations.
The discussions today reminded us that menstrual health goes beyond pads and sanitation facilities. It includes access to healthcare, psychosocial support, accurate information, and safe spaces where girls can speak openly without fear or shame.
A truly #PeriodFriendlyWorld is one where no girl misses school, suffers in silence, or is pushed toward harmful choices because of unmanaged menstrual health challenges.

The #Ebola situation is fragile, and the outbreak in Congo continues to increase risks across the region. The world cannot be safe if Africa is not safe.
@Amref_Worldwide is calling for stronger global collaboration, preparedness, and sustained investment in health security before the crisis escalates further.

At @Amref_Worldwide, we believe health security means more than reacting to outbreaks; it demands proactive action. We build robust systems, train skilled professionals, and empower communities, making Africa stronger and more resilient before, during, and after any crisis.
Our health emergency response stands firm on seven pillars: advanced laboratory diagnostics, expert training for community health workers, dynamic risk communication, vigilant cross-border surveillance, accessible mobile health services, rigorous WASH and infection prevention, and unified government coordination. These pillars drive real impact and lasting change across Africa.

@Amref_Uganda has installed incinerators in school latrines. Safe disposal means girls can manage their periods privately, stay in class,& avoid stigma.
This aligns with the 2026 MHM theme *Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld*. When schools provide dignity, girls stay & learn.
Community-Led Health Systems are redefining how real, sustainable health change happens by shifting power, ownership, and accountability closer to the people most affected.
At the sidelines of #WHA79, join a critical dialogue on “Community-Led Health Systems: Lessons from Coalition-Driven Change” on Tuesday, May 19th 2026 | 2:00–4:00 PM | Warwick Geneva.
This session will explore how coalition-driven approaches strengthen primary health care, accelerate accountability, and turn communities from passive recipients into active architects of their own health systems. From financing and governance to delivery and innovation, we will unpack what it takes to build systems that listen, adapt, and respond at the community level.
As global health shifts from top-down models to more inclusive, locally anchored approaches, the question is no longer whether communities should lead but how fast systems can catch up.

Today @MinofHealthUG & @MoESUganda held a workshop on Health Worker Curriculum Review.

As external funding shifts, Africa is redefining what it means to own their health agenda. This session will unpack how local ownership, stronger public-private partnerships, & regional collaboration are becoming the engines for financing resilient health systems.
For more than 10 years, we have maintained a strong strategic partnership with @Amref_Uganda that has grown from banking into meaningful social impact initiatives across communities.
This commitment was recently recognised at the Absa Group Social Impact Awards in South Africa, where Amref Health Africa emerged as the Gold Winner, Leading Social Impact Partner, and Bronze Winner, Client Development Organisation. The recognition also comes with additional seed funding of ZAR 50,000 to further support community impact initiatives.
We were honoured to host Dr @pkagurusi, Country Director of Amref Health Africa, who received the awards and officially handed over a UGX 3 million contribution towards this year’s Absa KH3–7 Hills Run.
Speaking on the partnership, our Managing Director, @DavidAWandera, congratulated Amref Health Africa on the well-deserved recognition and thanked the organisation for its continued commitment to creating lasting impact, particularly in advancing access to education for vulnerable girls.
When a girl stays in school, the ripple effects are significant, for her, for her family, and for the wider community.
Join us in making that impact count. Get your kit, lace up, and be part of the #AbsaKH37HillsRun.
