URGENT FOSTER HOME FOR BULLDOG PUPPY
We need an urgent foster home for 7 month old Bruno.
Sadly, Bruno does have some medical issues so ideally an experienced home is required. He also currently has some sight loss in one eye due to his cherry eye. Bruno will need frequent vet visits, so someone that’s willing to take him back and forth to the Sanctuary/ Portishead for check ups. As a foster, Bruno’s vet bills are covered by the sanctuary.
Adult only home with someone around a lot of the time.
Bruno really needs to be in a home, at 7 months old, with sight loss, kennels is really not ideal

Five Dollar Friday, for a dog who was almost erased by the system and the politics.

This is Red.

His story starts like too many others:
a big, scary, loud shelter after the people who should’ve protected him walked away.

Another rescue tagged him from NYCACC and arranged transport, thinking a foster was secured…
but the foster backed out.

The transporter, doing what rescue is really supposed to look like, brought Red back to Texas and helped connect the organization with a boarding facility.

And that’s where Red sat.
And waited.
And waited.

For almost a year.

For 12 months, the boarding staff trained him, fed him, cared for him, advocated for him, assumed the rescue would eventually return their calls or pay their bills or at least check on him��

But they didn’t.

They paid for 14 days.
Then told them to “just go ahead and kill him.”
Then blocked the boarding facility so the people who had poured into him couldn’t reach them again.

No follow-through.
No ownership.
No accountability.

That could’ve been where the story ended.

But here’s the part that matters most:

When we were told what was happening, we didn’t hesitate.
We contacted the boarding facility ourselves and said YES.
No announcements. No hero tours. No celebration posts.

We just made room, arranged intake, and brought him here — to Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue, a place built for the dogs who run out of lifelines.

And we don’t just do it once.

It happens a lot behind the scenes for us — quietly helping other rescues with placement, stepping up when shelters or fosters or funding collapse. Not to look heroic… but because collaboration saves more dogs than credit ever will.

And we’re grateful to share those values with organizations like Final Frontier Rescue Project, who also step in for other rescues with the same quiet courage — rescuing lives without counting applause.

But posts like this?
Red deserved one.

Because he almost died in the quiet.

So today we ask you for $5 — not to celebrate the rescues involved, but to fund the moments no one ever sees that prevent endings like his almost was.

Because out here?
•We work with them no matter the history
•We take the calls others block
•We carry the burden even when it’s invisible
•We choose the dog over the politics
•We refuse the ending

Today, we share Nugget’s story.
Meet Nugget, a 12 month old Dachshund X who has just been surrendered to our sanctuary, leaving behind a life he so desperately cherished.
His arrival here is a bittersweet reminder that sometimes, life takes a turn we never expect.
Now, Nugget finds himself in a kennel alone, his spirit sadly dimmed
The transition from home to kennel is daunting for any dog, but for Nugget, the absence of the companionship he once relied on makes this experience all the more heartbreaking. He is currently in shutdown mode, his personality hidden beneath layers of uncertainty.
As a RARE singleton puppy, Nugget missed out on vital opportunities to learn basic canine communication and behavioral coping skills from littermates, which can potentially set him up for frustration and sensitivity to handling later in life. Due to this, we are looking for a very special adopter or foster home for him.
He yearns for the stability and love that every dog deserves, along with the guidance needed to help him blossom into the companion he has the potential to be.
This precious boy needs extra patience and care to help him navigate his new reality.
Even with an incredible welfare team dedicating hours to show him that he can trust them, we worry that, within the confines of kennel life, his spirit may begin to fade.
Nugget deserves a family who will embrace his uniqueness, cherish his journey, and help him discover the joy of companionship, & we will be there to help guide them every step of the way.
