Захисник дістав тяжкі поранення 10 липня на Сумщині внаслідок наїзду на міну. Попри зусилля медиків, врятувати його не вдалося.

Буртняк приєднався до лав ЗСУ у березні 2024 року та служив у Стрийському батальйоні територіальної оборони з позивним «Музикант». У нього залишилися дружина, дві доньки та брат.
