Amazing news! FSSAI has passed a brilliant rule which forces companies to write the sugar, salt and fat content in bigger font and in bold.

This change will make it easier for Indian consumers to spot junk foods and not fall for marketing gimmicks. For example, it will become easier for Indians to spot that Tang has 93% added sugar or Nestle Iced Tea has 90% added sugar.

While there is a lot more to do to make packaged foods more transparent, I fully support this FSSAI decision!

Small steps can have a massive long-term positive impact to India!

Usually parents teach children about the harmful effects of junk food. I want to create an India where the next generation of Indian kids teach their parents about the negative effects of junk food.

I sometimes make trips to government schools to teach them about the basics of nutrition.

My dream is that nutrition/health will be a subject of the school syllabus, just like English, Mathematics, history, geography etc.

Here’s a bit of Wednesday Wisdom that a friend passed on to me. Whenever I’m asked who invented the automobile, I reflexively say: ‘Karl Benz,’ I had no clue that a French Army captain Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first known self-propelled vehicle using steam as the fuel in 1769! It was called the: ‘fardier à vapeur (steam dray)’ And it was a three-wheeler. (@sumanmishra_1 please note!We should all have more respect now for the humble auto-rickshaw. 🙂) Benz built the 1st gasoline powered vehicle, but as we know, the fuel used should not be the criterion. After Cugnot, Robert Anderson, a Scotsman built the 1st Electric carriage around 1832 and Benz followed only in 1885.
