It's incidentally - not that it matters - completely illegal under at least half a dozen European laws: not only is collecting ethnic and racial data forbidden (under, for instance, Europe's GDPR Article 9 and national French law) but doing so without the users' awareness or consent is itself a separate violation. And it's even worse in this case because they explicitly tried to hide this data collection with steganography.

And the immense irony, of course, is that this is precisely the kind of covert surveillance behavior the West - including Anthropic themselves - say China would do and that they want to "protect" people from...

Russian President Putin declares that the final Russian military objective has now shifted to include not just the four Ukrainian oblasts but Novorussiya including Ukrainian territory from Kharkiv to Odessa. The loss of these territories would make Ukraine a land locked rump state with only 57 percent of its internationally recognized territory. It would extend Russia's territory to NATO member state Romania and Moldova with crushing economic and demographic consequences. I warned of this years ago but US leaders did not listen.

🗣️@LeSommierRgis critique la rhétorique de "guerre imminente" entretenue par certains responsables militaires et politiques, alors même que les capacités réelles de la Russie sont décrites comme limitées. Selon lui, ce climat de peur sert surtout à justifier une intégration militaire et politique accrue au niveau européen, avec à la clé une mise entre parenthèses de la souveraineté nationale et la préparation psychologique des populations au sacrifice de leurs enfants.
