Of course the Arab League would support a dictatorship and help legitimise Muslim Brotherhood terrorists. The Arab League has historically been part of Sudan’s problem. Sudan joined it on 19 January 1956, only 18 days after gaining independence, and for the past 70 years it has helped preserve the same oppressive political order.

Of course the Arab League wants to maintain that old order. It has no interest in the wishes or will of the Sudanese people. Its priority is protecting a system built on dictatorship, exclusion and oppression.

Let us make one thing clear: there is absolutely nothing the Arab League can do to return Sudan to what it was before 15 April 2023. That old order is finished. Sudan is an African country, and its future will be determined by the Sudanese people. Sudan must reclaim its African identity and leave the Arab League.

Burhan has spent years saying that he speaks for the Sudanese people. He said the 2021 coup was about “correcting” the revolution, and throughout the war he has kept saying that the Sudanese people should be the ones to decide their future.

Now people are returning to Khartoum and seeing the situation for themselves. There is barely any reliable water or electricity, healthcare has been devastated, basic food is hard to find, and prices are out of reach for many families.

We have expected people to take to the streets again once they started coming home. It may not take long.

If people in Khartoum and other cities under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood army come out in protest and demand that Burhan leave, there will be no way to claim that he is speaking for them.

Burhan always says that “the people decide.” So let the people speak.

Egypt is not just watching Sudan’s war. It is trading through it.

A New Arab investigation argues that a joint Egyptian-Sudanese company, linked to Egypt’s ministries of supply and defence and to Sudan’s military-owned Defence Industries System, has become a major channel in wartime trade. The claim is that this network moves Sudanese gold into Egypt while supplying essential goods to SAF-linked entities.The numbers are striking. Egypt’s gold imports from Sudan jumped sharply, with much of that gold then re-exported.

The trade is described as operating largely in local currency through barter-style arrangements, reducing exposure to dollar-based sanctions.That is the core issue. Sanctions on Sudanese gold and military-linked companies lose force if the metal and the supplies can still move through a neighbouring state’s official channels. Egypt presents itself as a regional stabilizer. This reporting suggests parts of its state-linked economy are also extracting value from the conflict.

As long as the gold trail remains easy to reroute, the war economy will keep finding new doors.

These are apparently the faces of the so called “Sudanese Sudanese Dialogue”, backed by #KSA and featuring members and allies of the Muslim Brotherhood, suited and booted, preparing the ground for their return to government.

Here is a video highlighting Qasim Badri beating female students for peacefully protesting. This is the kind of figure now being presented as part of a supposed national dialogue.

The picture also highlights Amin Saad, accompanied by Qasim Badri and Mohamed Jalal Hashim, who are among the dialogue committee attempting to legitimise Burhan’s coup, while Amin Saad is pictured in military uniform carrying a weapon.

This is the reality behind the so called dialogue: figures linked to the old establishment being repackaged and presented as a pathway back into power.

African Union Welcomes Launch of Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue After Consultations Begin in Khartoum

The African Union Commission today welcomed the launch of the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue initiative, one day after the Preparatory Committee for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue began consultations in the capital, Khartoum, in an effort to open an inclusive Sudanese political process aimed at ending the war and paving the way for a stable transitional phase.

The African Union Commission said that, since the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis in April 2023, its leadership has worked to bridge differences among the Sudanese parties and create a conducive environment for ending the armed conflict and ensuring peace and stability in Sudan, by promoting a culture of dialogue and building a shared national vision.

The Commission reaffirmed its call to support national unity and national institutions and to strengthen the foundations of a democratic state, welcoming the initiative to facilitate a Sudanese-led dialogue inside Sudan under the supervision of an independent committee of prominent Sudanese figures.

The Commission called for consultations to include all relevant Sudanese stakeholders, including civil, political and social actors, based on the principles of inclusivity, ownership and genuine Sudanese leadership. It said the ultimate goal should be a united and sovereign Sudan enjoying peace, governed by civilian institutions, with a unified national security structure and effective mechanisms for resolving political and social disputes peacefully.
The Commission also said the initiative strengthens the African Union’s roadmap and the track of the Quintet mechanism

The Preparatory Committee for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue announced yesterday that it had begun consultations at a press conference in Khartoum. The committee described the initiative as a sincere effort to rebuild trust among Sudanese and begin preliminary discussions on the conditions for a serious, independent, safe and inclusive national dialogue.

The committee said the consultations aim to lay the foundations for a stable transitional period based on national consensus, leading to free and fair elections.

The committee was formed days after national and academic figures submitted an initiative to Sudan's Sovereignty Council Chairman and army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who accepted it and expressed his readiness to create a conducive environment and implement its outcomes. The committee is chaired by academic Qasim Badri and includes figures such as Nabil Adib, Mohamed Jalal Hashim, Abdullah Adam Khater and Suleiman Al-Amin.

The African Union's welcome comes one day after the initiative was launched, providing regional support for the dialogue process led by independent Sudanese figures and aligning with the Commission's call for an inclusive political process led by Sudanese themselves.

Yassir Al-Ataa’s message is blunt: the war will continue, and the UN Security Council can not stop them.

The political reality is clear: peace will not come from UN statements alone when those driving the war remain committed to fighting. At this point, it is fair to ask what the international peace effort is actually trying to achieve.
