The day I got my promotion, I ran to tell him first.
I was so excited, I didn’t even sit down.
I said, “Babe! I got it. I actually got the promotion!”
He looked at me for a second and said,
“Hm.”
No smile.
No hug.
No excitement.
Just… “hm.”
Then he added,
“So now you’ll start thinking you’re better than everyone.”
I laughed because I thought he was joking.
But his face stayed serious.
He started talking about how I’ll be “too busy,”
how I’ll “forget about him,”
how “women change when they start making money.”
And it hit me so hard.
He wasn’t worried about losing me.
He was worried about losing control over me.
He wanted me successful enough to admire him…
but not successful enough to outgrow him.
That day I realized something painful:
Some people don’t want you to win.
They just want you to stay close enough to remind them they’re still important.

My sister is a florist, early morning a man from the military called her... mind you he's in Boot Camp right now so he didn't have a lot of time. he asked my sister if she could make a bouquet and deliver it to his girl before she wakes up..so my sister did that, after delivery he even called my sister and double checked...... a man in the military in Boot camp, with limited time to contact the outside world... Ladies if he wanted to, he would.
