On the eve of Patrice Lumumba’s birthday (2 July), we salute the grit of the DRC football team. Though the match didn't go their way, their determination embodies the unyielding spirit of the Congolese people. Lumumba's vision of a proud, sovereign DRC lives on in every arena.
Amazing video sent to us via Jack Hennessy who was in Houston last night to see Cape Verde make history and reach the World Cup Round of 32.
Jack had a tricolour with him and got it to Pico after the game. Here's what he said happened;
"I live and work in Houston. Sat front row with a tricolor. We made friends with one of the photographers there and asked him to throw our flag to Pico"
Fair play to Pico for copping the flag was the wrong way around as well😅
As Pico himself said, he's playong for two countries at this World Cup.
Now that’s how you mark the end of primary school! 🐴
Lola Auchmuty made her last day of 6th class at Glanduff National School, Lecarrow, one to remember when she rode her horse to school for the occasion.
Pictured with her classmates, Lola celebrated a very emotional and memorable final day as she said goodbye to primary school life.
Wishing Lola and all her classmates the very best as they move on to the next chapter
Ireland may not be in the world cup this time but here’s the Pogues and the Dubliners at Tolka park from 1990 with their absolute banger of an unofficial world cup song, Jack’s Heroes… https://t.co/xPX9zXlj0b

Eamon: "...a cloudless June sky, the oxen reposed in the shade of the mighty British oak, the reek rising from a million barbecues, and England beginning its World Cup endeavour."
Bill: "It's the kind of thing that puts you off England."
Essential viewing for the day that's in it
Siamo tutti antifascisti! 💚🤍❤️
Last night at our Bologna show we were honoured to invite Josè Nivoi from the CALP (Collettivo Autonomo Lavoratori Portuali) dockers union onto the stage.
He spoke about their strikes, protests, and blockades to prevent weapons from being loaded onto ships to murder Palestinians. ✊🏼
🗣️ "My father left Cape Verde at 16. He went to Portugal, working in cafes – he was a keen baker and chef – and then he got work with a shipping company, went to the Netherlands and settled in Belgium. An Irish Ferries captain used to go into his cafe and then convinced him to go to Ireland for a weekend. He got there and never went back!"
The centre-back's journey from Ireland to #WorldCup2026 is incredible

Hector Pieterson, 12 yrs old, was one of the first young people to be shot. Photographer Sam Nzima captured the image of student Mbuyisa Makhubo carrying Hector, with Hector’s sister Antoinette running beside them. The iconic photograph inspired Dumile Feni’s 1987 painting below.
#OTD 50 yrs ago on 16 June 1976, thousands of students in Soweto, S.A. began a protest for the right to learn in their native languages + against forced study through Afrikaans. The apartheid police opened fire, killing at least 176 + wounding over 1,000. https://t.co/d3kpvbz5UO
The Glen of Aherlow in Inchicore - who sponsor Joseph Anang’s jersey - are firmly behind Ghana for the World Cup.
An incredible moment for the League of Ireland with Pico Lopes and Anang off to the tournament. Here’s hoping for some magic moments. 🇬🇭 #BlackStars#Ghana
