"I Stopped When Asked, Then They Opened Fire," Father of Baby Shot Dead by IDF in Hebron
‘The soldier was about ten meters away from me. He saw me, he saw my wife and the children. The car windows were not dark, it was daylight and everything was clear. You can’t say he didn’t see that it was a family,’ Fahed Abu Haykal told Haaretz

So, Canada today refused to criminalize residential school denialism and also refused to examine its complicity in the genocide in Gaza. Canada is basically just a genocide denial country at this point. So much for peacekeeper myth?
I'm sorry, I didn't realize Israel had now escalated to the "quadruple tap" where they just keep killing and killing as people try desperately to help the wounded
An israeli journalist called Yinon Magal has just posted this video on X with a caption in Hebrew that says
“hello children. Please help our brave soldiers find Beit Hanoun.”
This is Beit Hanoun, the city where I taught English for about three years. What you are seeing in this video is not only the ruins of a city, but the shattered remains of homes beneath which many victims of israel’s terror attacks are still buried.
There are literally hundreds of human beings still trapped under this rubble. Mothers, fathers, and children left buried for years.
World governments not only failed to punish israel for these war crimes and crimes against humanity, they did not even take any steps to intervene and prevent them.
Let us always remember that the Genocide Convention is not only about the Punishment of genocide, but also about the Prevention of the crime itself.
Canada is violating the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) by knowingly selling weapons to a state where there is a significant risk that those weapons will be used for IHL violations or atrocity crimes.
The postwar boom was a historical anomaly only made possible by the destruction of World War II, but its duration convinced generations that this was "normal" capitalism. In fact capitalism is now merely returning to its normal state of chronic crisis and insecurity for workers.

AI use is prohibited for any use for any purpose in any exam situation. 70% of students are opting out of mandatory online learning. Kids don’t want it. Parents don’t want it. Teachers know it’s not best for learning. Government response? “Too bad. It saves money.” Our students deserve better than an education system built on cuts. #onted#onpoli
HUGE LEGAL WIN FOR UNHOUSED IN CANADA
"...They are Us. They are rights bearers no less entitled than any other Canadian citizens to the full benefit and protection of the Charter."
Goosebumps! Those are the words of an Ontario Superior Court judge, recognizing the humanity of people living in homelessness. (1/10)
Brutally honest condemnation of Calandra's Min of Ed
"The minister has said repeatedly that financial mismanagement by trustees is behind the deficits at many Ontario school boards. To fix that, Calandra sidelined trustees, imposed supervisors at eight boards, and limited the future role of trustees.
And yet, the AG’s report obliquely offers an alternative reason for school-board shortfalls. It says that 46 of the province’s 72 school boards spend more money on special ed than the province provides. The total in 2023–24 was $397.9 million. That’s about double the total of school board deficits.
It’s reasonable, then, to conclude that the root cause of school-board deficits is provincial underfunding of special ed."

Russia has murdered 791 children in Ukraine since February 2022 and Canada has spent $25B on trying to stop this violence.
Israel has murdered more than 21,000 children in Gaza since October 2023 and Canada continues to +/- tacitly support Israel.
To be clear: they’re not protesting against the sexual torture of Palestinians by Israeli authorities. They’re protesting against the NYT for reporting it.
Very much appreciate this timely, comprehensive letter to PM Carney from 190 former Canadian diplomats. They write with a "strong sense of urgency about the need for immediate action, in concert with our European partners, to halt the Israeli government's stated intention to annex the West Bank; and the need to bring an end to its daily attacks against innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon."
Their thoughtful recommendations for immediate action by the Canadian government:
- inform the Israeli government of Canada's intention to undertake an immediate review of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA), including the application of rules of origin to exclude coverage of products from the illegal settlements; - notify Israel of Canada's intention to terminate the Canada-Israel Strategic Partnership MOU within six months, should the government continue to support the expansion of settlements in the West Bank;
- expand economic and travel sanctions to include any Israeli cabinet member, member of the Knesset, government official, settler, or organization that promotes violence against Palestinians or the seizure of their land;
- take legal action against Canadian companies that bid on or participate in construction projects in the settlements;
- announce Canada's unequivocal support for, and implementation of, decisions and actions taken by the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice regarding allegations of war crimes and genocidal acts in the region;
- strengthen bilateral relations with the State of Palestine including increased support to the Palestinian Authority and other civil institutions through training and technical assistance with a particular focus in the areas of governance, finance, the judiciary and security;
- appoint a Special Envoy to coordinate with international partners in addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to advance support for a negotiated twostate solution with a requirement to report semi-annually to Parliament on the situation;
- accelerate efforts by the Canada Revenue Agency to revoke the charitable status of all entities supporting illegal settlements or facilitating recruitment or funding for the Israel Defence Forces;
- collaborate with international partners to support non-governmental organizations providing protective accompaniment and legal advocacy to Palestinians facing settler violence in the West Bank; and
- advocate with partners to lift Israel's restrictions on Non-Governmental Organizations and journalists in Gaza to ensure effective aid delivery and independent reporting.

Imagine back in the heyday of online essay mills, if the push had been to teach students to use essay mills ethically and to develop essay mill strategies. Or if we had accepted that essay mills were okay for grammar and organization but taught Ss to make the essays their own.
This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
