karl unwin biographical novel about the voices in my head and the insane things they make me do,mentalhealth, crime, drugs and sex -should have been a politician
A million plus people protesting on our streets sends a shiver down Keir Starmer’s spine. So it should. He, nor any other British politician, could persuade 1% of that amount to mobilise. Instead of acknowledging there may be a problem he smears them as far right. The other Saturday they were a good natured crowd yearning to be heard. Insulting & ignoring them will only inflame.
I can’t get past this. Earlier this year Starmer made his “island of strangers” speech. When there was some flak he denied believing this & claimed they were the words of his speech writer.
• Who doesn’t read a speech before delivering it?
• What politician would admit to that?
• Was he lying & decided he’d throw his speech writer under the bus?
• He wrote it & didn’t have the strength of character to stand by it?
Whatever the answer & it must be one of the above & imo it shows he has no intelligence/integrity/spine.
There was a time, not so long ago, when an army of boys & girls from 12 years upwards set their alarm clocks for 5.30 a.m. & got dressed, mounted their bikes in all weathers & headed to their local newsagents to carry out their paper round.
It was an important introduction to the world of work & to earning dosh for themselves & becoming independent. They are as rare as the rag & bone man now. We will never see their like again.
The voices : surviving the eighties , avoiding the asylum
Nostalgic , funny at the same time haunting , a story of a young boy growing up with mental health issues
My Dad fought all over the world. Now I am older, his generation’s courage, patriotism & stoicism humbles me. As does the brave womenfolk & children back at home.
I am ashamed of our leaders who trash their memory by allowing “protests” at the same time in the same place.
I have utter contempt for politicians who have frittered away the great country they were all prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. Today we honour & remember those that did.
R.i.p Bernard Hill, superb actor whose portrayal of out-of-work tarmacer Yosser Hughes was so visceral it was painful to watch #gisusajob
Shame he later crashed Titanic into an iceberg.
