@smichaelis234 Yeah that’s fair. How much do the standings change how you feel? Imo the difference between the 2 and the 3 seed is a huge difference and makes it worth giving the pen an extra inning of work every once in a while.
@smichaelis234 I think long-term wise, you’re correct. But I also think right now they should be more fearful of leaving him in a game too long than pulling him too early.
One costs them an inning of work from another pitcher, the other could/has cost them a game.
@smichaelis234 Like obviously almost every pitcher is going to get worse as the game goes on, but the difference for him is rather extreme. Obviously can’t just pull every starter early though.
@smichaelis234 Yeah, but collectively his stats in the 4th, 5th, 6th inning as well as his splits the 2nd/3rd time through would suggest he drops off a lot more than most pitchers as the game goes on. If you expand the sample & use similar data points it doesn’t help his case.
@Jared_Carrabis What’s also crazy is the Brewers themselves have missed Henderson/Woodruff/Priester/Gasser for all or most of the year, who have had a combined ERA or 3.21 since the start of 2025.
They’ve missed almost a whole rotation worth of league best pitching & are still first.
@jaypo1961 Okay so then what in the world makes you think UW is a 9-10 win team?
4-8 last year, haven’t beaten either Iowa/Minnesota the last two years, & the 38th portal class on 247.
We had this same exact discussion last year when you said they could win 8 games lol.
@cecchiniandrew@Saintmarks999@Brewsylvania@Cubs The Brewers haven’t lost their ace and yet they have still lost just as much value as the Cubs because they have 10-12 great pitchers in their organization, whereas the Cubs do not.
Them having a bunch of > 5.00 ERA guys get hurt isn’t the reason they’re 7.5 games back.
@cecchiniandrew@Saintmarks999@Brewsylvania@Cubs The Brewers quite literally do not have their whole staff.
They just replaced Woodruff/Priester/Gasser/Henderson/Hall/Koenig (who are collectively better than who the cubs have missed) so you haven’t noticed.
@cecchiniandrew@Saintmarks999@Brewsylvania@Cubs After that the Cubs have missed Taillon & Cabrera who are at > 5.10 ERA.
Compared to Brewers who are missing Hall (2.84 ERA & 1.5 WAR since start of 2025), Gasser (3.53 ERA, 0.5 WAR), Koenig (2.77 ERA, 1.5 WAR).
The Brewers do such a great job replacing them you don’t notice.
@cecchiniandrew@Saintmarks999@Brewsylvania@Cubs Woodruff/Priester/Henderson have had a lower combined ERA & higher WAR than Boyd/Steele/Horton have since the start of 2025 despite throwing 180 fewer innings. Even if you go back to 2024 for Steele that’s still true.
@Saintmarks999@Brewsylvania@Cubs Brewers seem to be doing just fine despite missing Woodruff, Priester, Henderson, and Gasser for most or all of the season.
