Getting increasingly annoyed about the mainstream media shitting on datacenter power consumption. Annoyed because it starts to clearly affect the sentiment of non-IT people around me. Which sounds retarded to me.

Datacenter power consumption is being discussed as a standalone thing (and boy is it bad for the world)

Meanwhile: we ALL use services that NEED those same datacenters to operate and consume power. The power consumption of the datacenters isn't a standalone thing: it should be allocated to every individual. A ton of small parts are on all our accounts.

Our social media? Our smart lightbulb? Our Netflix binging? Our spell check? Email? Photo sync? That's all responsible. We can't just blame datacenter power consumption for our power shortages without reflecting on our own wants, needs and behaviour.

So. I said it. No one will care, but at least I vented. Thanks for listening 🤣
