On a daily basis in Ireland, pharmacists routinely verify chemotherapy/SACT prescriptions, and when they detect an error, request its correction.
Pharmacists in my experience are the most nerdy, scrupulous and precise employees in the hospital.
@DonnellyStephen has launched a public consultation on prescribing rights for pharmacists.
In my opinion, pharmacists should have specialist career pathways, legalised prescribing rights acknowledged in new contracts, adequate negotiated governance, and clinical indemnity equivalent to physicians. It seems an obvious case of underutilised expertise.
