From experience, I can confirm that these statistics make the work of existing NHS child psychiatrists more likely to result in burnout & exiting the profession for the short or longterm, in order to cope with the workload & emotional & psychological toll https://t.co/NsFrJjFXIU

Do you know the years of training required to become a psychiatrist in the UK?
5+2+3+3 = 13 years
That's only if you don't take any career breaks or do additional training.
If you don't create suitable working conditions for a consultant-level psychiatrist in the UK, they will find better opportunities around the world & move.
Every time a psychiatrist moves out of the UK. They are taking expertise developed over at least 13 years with them.
I find it strange that the people in the leadership positions don't feel the sense of loss & impact this brain drain is having in the UK.
There are no cheaper alternatives for a well-trained doctor.
Burnout isn't about hours worked.
In fact, there are usually much deeper causes.
Leaders should start to recognize when it's occurring,
And take steps to help.
Use this graphic to find causes of burnout in your organization.
I wish we would stop talking about #wellbeing in medicine.

We can't continue to watch doctors burnout, go off sick & leave the profession
We need to act NOW.
Systems & culture change are key.

…concern”. Social media is a mediator in increase mental health concerns amongst our young people but it’s a more complex picture. Many CYP I see in clinic are anxious about an uncertain future with less prospects/more adversity than previous generations [2\2]
“Although rates of mental illness have gone up alongside rates of social media usage, many other ecological changes affecting young people have taken place in the past 15 years, including widening inequalities, tightening job markets & climate change [1/2] https://t.co/O2ppzp7rPj
The argument that “we need PAs due to a GP shortage” is a lie.
The “NHS GP shortage” is deliberate & entirely manufactured
15036 doctors applied for 4096 GP training posts
**10,940 doctors** were unsuccessful
We have the doctors! NHSE are ensuring there are NO jobs for them!
‘Dare to care.’ Caring ‘too deeply’ can render us vulnerable to sustaining psychological wounds. Being sensitised to man’s inhumanity to man can even make us prone to a mental health crisis. After all, ‘Sometimes, an appropriate response to reality is to go insane…’ #Lebanon
