In the 1st longitudinal prospective study ever, wall shear stress by 4D #WhyCMR predicted co-localised progressive ascending aorta dilation rate in patients with non-dysfunctional #bicuspid aortic valve. Brief 🧵summarising the findings. From @jaccjournals https://t.co/5JbBamOEKz
suggesting 4Dflow-derived hemodynamics may become a therapeutic target and permit the optimization of aortic interventions. Larger studies and long FU are needed!

Big thanks to the patients, authors, reviewers, @VHIR_@vallhebron and funders!
Pts with #Marfan or #Loeys-Dietz syndrome who underwent root replacement are at high risk of distal aortic events, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. In this prospective study including pre- and post-#4Dflow#WhyCMR valve-sparing root replacement partially restores.. (1/3)
certain downstream fluid dynamics characteristics to physiological levels, with no impact on stiffness. Results also show that the changes in aortic tortuosity consequent to surgery may modulate the hemodynamics changes. It makes me think of @HEARTinMagnet et al review... (2/3)
@BecariosFLC@chateauform@FundlaCaixa It has been a pleasure to spend few days with all these wonderful colleagues, sharing experiences and tips, and moments of relax! Thanks to the organisers and the host!
Aortic diameter and its growth are key for the clinical management of aortic aneurysms
Guideline-recommended method is subjective, poorly reproducible, and time-consuming
We presented an innovative image analysis method substantially outperforming current standard

False lumen thrombus presence and extent in chronic aortic dissection of the descending aorta is related to local flow characteristics, particularly blood kinetic energy. This non-invasive measure may be important to personalize patient management. Read @

@David_Ouyang @kayzayai @milos_ai@yuanneal@CedarsSinaiMed @SmidtHeart @LorenzoRighett7 In you fantastic trial (congrats, impressive) the spread of Inter-observer variation in EF seems to me much lower.
@David_Ouyang @kayzayai @milos_ai@yuanneal@CedarsSinaiMed @SmidtHeart @LorenzoRighett7 Thanks for engaging. My question was about the distribution of the difference in EF between AI and the report. You report a mean, which may inform of bias, but not on the spread (SD, IQR, 95%CI, any of them), which informs, IMO, about the reliability of the prediction.
@David_Ouyang @kayzayai @milos_ai@yuanneal@CedarsSinaiMed @SmidtHeart @LorenzoRighett7 Other important information to understand the performance would be the number of patients with the diseases to be predicted in the testing set. How many pts had prior mitraclip, TAVR, pacemaker, or had heart failure, dilated LV and LA? What were the sens., spec., NPV and PPV?
@David_Ouyang @kayzayai @milos_ai@yuanneal@CedarsSinaiMed @SmidtHeart @LorenzoRighett7 Congratulations! Just a question, what is the spread of the predictions of EF? From the figure it seems substantial and likely large then inter-observer reproducibility or scan-rescan variation, but the report only includes mean error and mean error with bootstrapping.
