Join us tomorrow on Fri., November 20th as Derick Brinkerhoff joins us as our next #UCRSPP Seminar speaker. Dr. Brinkerhoff will talk about "Citizen Empowerment and Accountability for Service Delivery: Lessons for the US from Indonesia." RSVP via https://t.co/rsXVNBr0dh.
@EddieComeaux The SROs create a hostile learning environment, where students of color are criminalized by implementing metal detectors, routinely drug checks in classrooms, suspension and detention. Such practices serve to enforce the school to prison pipeline. #racialjustice
@NucholsKaitlin @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Unfortunately academic advisors and coaches participate in this practice in aims to keep student athletes eligible. Seems like coaches only want to challenge their athletes on the field but not within academia. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
The Excellence Beyond Model offers a whole approach on to address the gap within racial identity and personal development, amongst black athletes. It doesn’t only focus on graduation rate, but also college experience. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely https://t.co/FZ0egH0kb6
@Adams_Shawntell @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Unfortunately, not only atr student athletes’ education being jeopardized but their future career too. Influencing their major also determines their career paths. @andrear90835875@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA is seeking for its best interest by financially & academically hindering student athletes’ futures. Steering athletes into certain majors limits them from pursuing their dream careers, if given the opportunity to finish their degree. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@JANELYmena@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar The rules are clearly for monetary reasons. Why else would they place greater restrictions on revenue generating sports like men’s football, basketball, baseball, and hockey? #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA’s 4-4 transfer rules and conditions primarily benefit institutions for commercial and economic benefits. Unfortunately, student athletes’ best interest in academia are overlooked and denied transfer.
#ucr150@Shelby_Rabara@MisssNallely
@LeifCaesar4 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Unfortunately coaches like Mora don’t respect the health and life of the players. I’m afraid colle athletes will continue to be under treated for concussions, if a concussion management protocol isn’t enforced. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
Concussion protocols are not required. Therefore, bringing awareness on concussion symptoms and plans amongst parents, coaches, and students can better detect and treat a concussion. #ucr150 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar https://t.co/t6UyMryJM7
@Adams_Shawntell@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar As long as the athletic department meets one of the 3 prong tests, it’s acceptable. Therefore, most universities prefer to meet the 1st prong test of student interest and abilities. Unfortunately this approach promotes quantity over quality. #educ150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
TitleIX has encouraged more women to participate in sports. However, the financial disparity between men’s and women’s sports persists. As a result, women are deemed at fault for the athletics department budget. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar https://t.co/aC40CgHnbA
@Adams_Shawntell @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Yes, it’s a terrible agreement. It cannot even be considered a contract, since there are no terms of negotiation. It strictly favors colleges by giving them power to set the rules & regulations without the athlete’s input. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
Universities limit the academic success for the student athletes of color. This restriction reflects why poc are underrepresented in hierarchy positions which require higher education. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely https://t.co/ZnnZmQSKkN
@CristianDiaz233 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Even if everyone knows the NCAA is corrupt, I question why and how does it continue to persist? Maybe it’s going to take popular influential figures to gear attention to the issue. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA has manipulated their eligibility rules from “protecting” college athletes to penalizing them. The NCAA aims to profit off college athletes by unfairly punishing college athletes for violating the amateur code. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@NucholsKaitlin @ArianaMaganaPe1@helloJuJudy @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I agreee with Kaitlin. Not only is there a mental and physical toll placed on student athletes, but also a financial burden. Especially for low income student athletes who don’t have the financial resources to meet their basic needs like food security.
The SAAC are speaking on behalf of student athletes to be financially compensated for the spring season. Students are asking for housing and food security, an extra year of eligibility, and scholarships to be renewed for seniors. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar @helloJuJudy
