After @CBSNews published a searing exposé of tattooed gangs of sheriff's deputies running wild w/in the L.A. Sheriff's Dept., and profiled the #AnthonyVargas family, one of the "Banditos" deputy gang prospects who killed him was part of a posse outside the family home last night
As families spoke tonight on @joinClubhouse of how L.A. sheriffs killed their loved ones and then go on to harass them (!!), the family of Anthony Vargas pointed out that sheriffs were concurrently outside their residence.
For months, I'd been hearing rumors about people w/alleged deputy gang tats getting them covered so they could get promoted.
Finally, @LASDHQ let me interview one of them: The new chief of the Detective Division, who once had a Banditos tattoo.

.@USC claims their decision to cave in to anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate by cancelling Asna Tabassum's valedictorian speech is not about free speech but about safety. Here's why that claim is disingenuous at best, or a flimsy lie. #LetAsnaSpeak#AsnaTabassum|🧵A Thread
Institutions of higher learning — whether public or private — ought to be strong defenders of free speech and free inquiry.
@USC’s unprecedented decision to rescind its invitation for valedictorian Asna Tabassum to address its commencement betrays these values. - @mtajsar

Deputy gangs run the LA County Sheriff's Department.
Former Undersheriff Tim Murakami admitted to be a tattoo'd member of the Cavemen deputy gang, out of the East LA station. The same station as former Sheriff Alex Villanueva. It's all related. #LASDgangs
LASD GANGS
For the first time, former LA Undersheriff Tim Murakami publicly admitted to having a deputy gang tattoo. He testified that former Sheriff Villanueva knew about the tat. This was Villanueva's #2, of course he knew!

Yesterday, LA County agreed to pay $700k to a reporter who was slammed to the ground & arrested by LASD while covering a protest - making this likely the largest payout to a reporter in connection w/covering 2020 protests.

Thanks to my lawyers who worked years to arrive at this settlement. I hope it helps deter future assaults on journalists and can be used as a benchmark in other 1A cases.
You're free to film law enforcement without fear of injury or your device getting broken. It is our right.

Check The Sheriff pushed the BoS to pass a motion requesting LASD develop & adopt policy to protect memorial sites & vigils for victims of LASD shootings 2+ years, LASD has not adopted any policy. #LASDgangs
We’ve finally got the COC to agendize this for Thursday's meeting👇👇
Another person died inside of MCJ this week. 31 people have lost their lives this year.
We will be outside @LACountyBOS every Tuesday (9:30-12:00) until the County takes appropriate action to release people and close MCJ.
THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. NO MORE DELAY- CLOSE MCJ
VIOLENCE AT HILTON HOTEL: Security @HotelMayaDT forcibly relocated striking workers w/ chain link fence while a guest ran around the fence & punched a worker in the head. Violence at the hands of hotel security or while they stand by is WRONG! That’s why we filed a ULP yesterday.
To Whom It May Concern: We at the @latimes + @rcfp would like to get our grubby little reporter paws on your sealed records showing uses of force inside your jails.
Readers: Wish us luck (or do weird ritual sacrifices on our behalf). 🤞 https://t.co/9GyjSxMDIY
UPDATE: This is the THIRD DEATH in ONE WEEK at Men's Central Jail, and LASD's 29th in-custody death this year.
Reminder that MCJ is a dilapidated 60-year-old facility the county said they would close earlier this year, but failed to. https://t.co/zL1rIfvF8D
NEW: Los Angeles says phone calls will be FREE for people in jail by Dec. 1!
If this sounds familiar, yes they said they'd do this before -- but this time the motion actually has a deadline + directions to identify funding. https://t.co/hLzBUc2fOY
