Listen up. It is time to set the record straight on contemporary worship services. We are not dealing merely with style. We are dealing with a fundamentally different theology of worship.
Take this chart as an example. At first glance, someone might assume that the difference between a Liturgical Divine Service and a Contemporary Evangelical Service is simply a matter of preference: guitars versus organs, praise bands versus hymns, screens versus hymnals. But the chart shows something much deeper. Now, pay attention: The architecture of the services differs because their goals differ.
The Contemporary Evangelical Service moves toward response, next steps, connection, and integration into the church’s ecosystem. The Liturgical Divine Service moves toward reception: Christ gives His gifts through His Word and Sacraments so Christians can return to their vocations. That is to say, these are not merely different styles accomplishing the same thing. They reflect different theological assumptions about what worship is, who is acting, and why the congregation is there.
That is why the so-called “worship wars” cannot be reduced to instrumentation or aesthetics. Indeed, the issue is much deeper than guitars versus organs. It is about theology embodied in the service's structure.
And this is precisely why the Confessional Lutheran Church must take the ordo seriously. You see, Lutherans should not be naive enough to think that the historic order is merely an empty shell waiting to be filled with whatever style happens to be popular. The ordo has a theological direction. Its architecture confesses something.
And here is the point: The shape of the service reveals its theology. Change the shape long enough, and you may eventually change the theology with it.
🇰🇷 Today, October 3, 2026, millions of South Koreans took to the streets, calling for the impeachment of President Lee Jae-myung and standing against the Chinese Communist Party and communism.
Gaecheonjeol, Korea’s National Foundation Day, commemorates the legendary founding of Gojoseon in 2333 BC, traditionally regarded as Korea’s first state.
On this historic day, Koreans are raising their voices for the future of their nation. 🔥
We will pass on a free and democratic Korea to future generations!
🚨Impeach Lee Jae-myung!🚨
Lee Jae-myung is a fake president installed by the Chinese Communist Party through election interference and fraud in Korea’s presidential election, and he is a stooge of the CCP!
Korea will not be silent.
Korea will not surrender.
On this day in 1997 (October 3, 1997), 69-year-old hockey legend Gordie Howe played a single shift for the International Hockey League's Detroit Vipers, becoming the only professional hockey player to compete in six different decades.
Michaelmas gales assail the waning year,
And Michael’s scale is true, his blade is bright.
He strips dead leaves; and leaves the living clear
To flourish in the touch and reach of light.

Today is Michaelmas, the autumnal feast of the mighty St Michael the Archangel - in medieval tradition the guardian of high places, weigher of souls after death, heavenly warrior against the forces of evil, and defender against the dark. https://t.co/UxIhZ85fO0
Kevin McGonigle finished his rookie season with 7.1 WAR, per @baseball_ref, tops among all AL players. He also finished with a rare in-game exit for a standing ovation.
“This year is a dream come true,” he said.

It's the eve of Michaelmas, the great feast of St Michael and All Angels - an invocation of the powers of light as the year turns towards the darker days of autumn. Here's a thread on Michaelmas daisies, geese, moons, and other traditional namesakes of the angels' feast.
Tonight's harvest moon, the first full moon after the autumnal equinox, has a special history. This is what Sir Gawain and the Green Knight calls the 'Michaelmas moon', and in the old Anglo-Saxon calendar it was the herald of winter.

Today my brother makes the final start of his career.
It will be his first start in Detroit for the Tigers in 9 years and 37 days (August 2017).
So many memories in Detroit.
Baseball is my life. A huge reason for that is my brother. I fell in love with baseball watching him play.
Today I get to watch him play one more time. Let’s do this.
Go Tigers.
I have many thoughts on the Nikole Hannah-Jones story, especially having attended the kind of schools she sent her daughter to, but if we're looking for takeaways, here's a simple one. When an expert in education so thoroughly demonstrates a jarring and near complete lack of expertise in the act of getting an education for her own daughter, we should stop taking advice from her on curriculum, instruction, and all other fads disguised as wisdom she offers. That seems like the least we could do. Her daughter's personal struggle, which is indeed sympathetic, wasn't much of a teachable moment for her, as she doesn't seem to have updated any of her priors (and actually fudges funding facts, so as not to disrupt the narrative of under-resourced schools). But it should be a teachable moment for us, about the outsized influence of a scholar who claims to know better than anyone what her daughter would be up against in the school to which she chose to send her, but was inexplicably surprised and left her daughter completely unprepared for it.
“I see quite clearly that all good things must come to an end. The summer has been splendid, but it has lasted long enough. This morning I welcomed the chill in the air and viewed the falling leaves with cheerfulness.” ~A.A.Milne #Autumn#AutumnEquinox 🍁
