@JohnFernandez1 It would be brilliant to get on with things, but there is a group in our Assembly determined to slow the progress of tax reform and the future fiscal balance in Guernsey.
It is with great sadness that we share that David M. Webb MBE passed away peacefully in Hong Kong on Tuesday January 13th, 2026 from metastatic prostate cancer. David will be missed by family, many friends, and supporters. The family request privacy at this difficult time.
@ShaneLanglois@richarddigard@BBCGuernsey The proposal last week was to clearly articulate the economic logic behind each GWP super-priority, explicitly linking growth to action. This was agreed by the States over a decade ago, but never implemented.
@ShaneLanglois@richarddigard@BBCGuernsey Some economic philosophies de-emphasise growth, but in a globally connected economy that approach is inherently inflationary. If we stood still while the rest of the world grew, the rising cost of imported goods and services would quickly become crippling.
@ShaneLanglois@richarddigard@BBCGuernsey That is a fantastic “Alice through the Looking Glass” spin on the world. Removing expectations of prosperity is an extreme socialist concept of mediocrity. Should we remove ambition, expectation and innovation too?
This week some new Guernsey parliamentarians are with us. As newly elected Deputies @Govgg they’ll meet Westminster MPs, Peers and officials to explore the challenges of parliamentary practice and procedure. We’re very pleased to have them here!
This is an important deal in unlocking the much needed infrastructure, house building, regeneration and public amenity improvements and gives the States the avenue to do it in a more coordinated and joined-up fashion.
We are delighted to have the support of 55 candidates in the upcoming elections, and adding more……
We look forward to working with successful candidates.
@rue_simon@JayneOzanne@GuernseyPress It’s becoming a major problem for Guernsey that we keep revisiting policy and advice multiple times. This could quite simply, cost Guernsey everything.
@JayneOzanne@GuernseyPress It is a pity how some comments here put the lack of adoption of proposals was down to personalities. Corporate tax was defeated 28-11 in 2024 and in 2024 21-14, GST passed 20-15. Part of the reason of gov inefficiency is rehashing old debates and the cycle is starting again.
@Katieci Exactly my point! A single issue, whether it be GST or women's rights, isn't enough in itself. We need to see clear joined up policies with practical ideas for implementation and funding.
@DavidPiesing63@mjconcanno60904@steve_falla That comes down to the electorate making smart choices and our candidates demonstrating that they really understand the issues and act with conviction and with integrity.
@DavidPiesing63@mjconcanno60904@steve_falla We really need to make excellent, informed decisions this term. If we do, then our island will prosper. If we continue to be uncertain and question ourselves, waiting to be convinced by the next exciting promise (without substance), then we fail to invest in our future.
@DavidPiesing63@mjconcanno60904@steve_falla Anyone who voted against GST+ will struggle in this election. Our community is smart & gets the need to raise revenue to fund investments. We must stop trying to finance everything from operating revenue & adopt a sustainable model. Read the S&P report and the Fiscal Panel Review
