The incompetence of senior executives at @EWRairport is amazing. After 11pm in their infinite wisdom they decide to switch the air train system, which would be tolerable if the freaking system explained how the system worked and just had signs or informed people. #losingmymind
@alxmthew is a stud via @mastersofscale. Gives me confidence we’ll be both more thoughtful and better in the next generation (and, you CAN invest in buddie, as close a proxy to his life)
Algorithm showed me @Alxmthew’s (17 yr old, junior at @AlphaSchoolATX) post about the value of college for kids right now. I commented on it. He said he’s happy to chat more about it.
So we hopped on a call today. Talked about alpha school, life, motivation, politics, and startups. Went almost 2 hrs but could have easily been way longer.
Wish I could do an angel check into his life.
Very bullish on the next generation of education & the next generation of humans it will produce.
BTW he took the call from school (on saturday afternoon).
@elonmusk All for attractive women in tech @elonmusk, greater scrutiny for seeming outliers from China? And note the deleterious Pitch Competitions as another element @_futureunion_
Wow, the @CBSSports College Football postgame “team” aka four people seated at a table trying to show up each another=could not be a worse collection of disparate parts #anklebiters Either together or individually, this is a mess
That was hard to watch #UncomfortableConversations
Never witnessed such compressed courtesy, in 10min Bus 16 ride in #TelAviv#Israel pregnant lady offers seat to elderly lady/student took her cane as pay (bf commencement of notorious mad bus dash)+car fender bender & two girls finished info xchg under 3 min, no police no yelling
Heading in mall, coworking space & stop at guard booth, ask do you need to see my gym bag? Older gent, no english, after fumbling & not quite getting the Hebrew, he said “boom, boom” matter of factly. With a gun motion, as simply as if not. Living in #TelAviv#Israel=ain’t Kansas
@BoringBiz_ Add in the importance of dev relationships across departments at similar levels - analyst/associates across the org in different areas - everyone grows together and that rando analyst today from floor 15 and another from floor 3 is tomorrow tech ceo or corporate raider
If I were to go back in banking, this is what I would do differently
> grab coffee with seniors (VPs and MDs) more often. cannot put a price on relationships and they are the ones who vouched for me to land my next job
> spend more time thinking about the “why” behind transactions. understand the rationale from both a buyer and seller perspective. would have made the learning curve on the buyside much easier
> spend more time understanding valuation drivers. goes with the second point, but essentially ask yourself why the buyer is providing the term sheet they are providing. what assumptions are they using to drive their estimate on TEV. this is a very helpful mindset to have for buyside
> worked on more complex transactions. While I worked on my fair share of tough deals, have come to realize that your value add in finance is purely a culmination of the number of deals you have worked on. The more complex the situation, the more you know and the more value you can add at your next job. Important lesson learned: run towards complexity early in your career, not away from it
> perhaps most importantly, taken better care of my health mentally and physically. Banking definitely took a toll on me, just
like it does for everyone else. I realized I was just not very good at managing stress in my early 20s. Have gotten much better at it now. Wish I picked up those healthy habits earlier
Anything else you would add to the list?
Amazing the cleaner/better quality food in #Berlin and Germany. Few weeks in attest to quality in grocery eg cold cuts 10x US (despite cheese/meat on everything #cleanerfood) & convinced all additives+ in US food system making us sick. US system so compromised by special interest
A once-symbiotic melding of American capital with Chinese growth is unraveling https://t.co/M91pxXrdSU via @WSJ. Appreciate @jamestareddy including this important discussion and including me on the implications.
As my @WashTimes views made clear, @WhiteHouse@POTUS need to stay the course & bring all available resources & options to the table to help #Israel overthrow the Ayatollahs in #Iran. A globally united Europe & all of world need to eliminate the regime https://t.co/ZBM1irP1fo
There are no words for this person. He deserves the worst punishment humanity can conjure. To shoot unarmed people, let alone a couple, coming from a celebration without warning and end two beautiful lives with amazing promise and grand plans, just .. heartbreaking.
Sarah was still alive and tried to crawl away after she was shot. The terrorist followed her and fired at her again, emptying his firearm at her.
And yet she was still alive and even managed to sit up as he reloaded his weapon. He finished reloading, and fired at her for the final time.
21 spent cartridge cases were found.
May he rot, and may the infested ideology factories that carry water for this madness face every consequence coming to them.
