7 novels deep into the @RGalbraith Cormoran Strike series. While there are crime writers with tricksier puzzles or more vivid sense of place, @jk_rowling is one of the great portrait artists. Her eye for the subtle shades of human dysfunction rivals PD James or Dorothy Sayers
@jenniferwilkin@JeremyTreat5 I see many graduating from seminary – you won't find them on youtube but they're the ones who show up in the middle of the night when life gets rough
Is Song of Songs an allegory? Nah. Too sexy. BUT it's totally theological. It is about sex: as legit a theological topic as any. If all we had to go on was narratives describing how the patriarchs treat their wives, then "God as husband" (Eph 5etc) would not be a great metaphor
I’m pleased to share that my Seminary Now course, Exploring Genesis, is now live. Together we’ll explore how Genesis helps us understand God’s character, humanity’s story, and why this world (like my bow-tie) isn't quite right. Love for you to join me.

A review of Modern Genre Theory in JETS finally raises the authorial elephant in the room! Evangelicals often struggle with the move between descriptive (this is how people read) and normative (this is how we should read) hermeneutical projects. I tried to be clear. Oh well!
Clement of Alexandria with some hard truths on how often manly men should take a bath:
"Bathing for pleasure is to be omitted. For unblushing pleasure must be cut out by the roots; and the bath is to be taken by women for cleanliness and health, by men for health alone."
Anyone know where the vassal treaty / unconditional royal grant hullabaloo over the Davidic covenant is up to? I haven’t seen anything since Jagged Little Pill was a new release
Thinking about the genre of Judges, I went and looked up a form critical commentary on Judges. The answer? "Judges has no genre. Judges is not a book. There is no such thing as Judges. You are wrong to ask this question. This commentary shouldn't exist." OK thanks my bad.
"I only wish I could have read this book when I was a graduate student" ☺️ awww...
Just saw this review of Modern Genre Theory in Bulletin for Biblical Research by Daniel Smith which says nice things and (more importantly for the review genre) nicely summarises the book
Did a little sermon in City on a Hill's "Ask Anything" series answering the question "how should Christians respond to the 'woke' movement?" https://t.co/tt9LnWoltm
@Jrocc_ Great question John - actually I think if we don't join in W1 then that invites the slide to W3 because the church isn't holding out an alternative ideology to the radical
