If you're here, and you're like "Wait who is this @andrewhowdencom" what do they do
I make courses! You can find the next one introducing software developers to observability on Udemy. Check it out at https://t.co/0XfBpMZo0Q
@tobalotv@rakyll I'm trying to make the answer "yes" :D

It's ... slow. So far that's north of a billion tokens of software development.
A new article: "On communicating through writing":

In this one, I try to convey why I am so "document-driven", heavily leaning on writing up ideas (including technical documents, product decisions and so on) in a structured way.
The reports from #Gaza are terrible. Civilians seeking shelter getting killed is unacceptable. The repeated attacks on #schools by the Israeli army must stop & be investigated quickly. 1/3
Lovely people I am substantially reducing my personal and semi-professional (read: conference and community) for at least the next few months.
If I look like I'm ignoring things, don't worry, I'm ignoring things โ but that's by design. Right now I need focus!
#SREConEMEA#CallForPapers ends soon! If you were planning on submitting a talk, you should do it now. Otherwise, you'll forget and you'll miss that opportunity ๐ฅ
It doesn't take too long. Checkout the website for details:

For a lot of us, it's labor day. And what better day to celebrate than doing some FREE LABOUR!
Okay, that was terrible, But #SRECon is on soon, and a public holiday is a good opportunity to write up that #CallForPapers. If you can, get on it!

#SREConEMEA has its #CallForPapers currently open! You can access it here:

I have both been and spoken at this conference, and it is the conference I think is perhaps most valuable to go to.
If you have thoughts on software operations write them up!
Another book bites the dust! This one "Quit" by Anne Duke. It felt almost like a reply to Duckworths "Grit" book at times ๐ but it points out excellent examples of the sunk cost problem, escalation of commitment and strategies to address that (such as kill or exit criteria)
Briefly, I want to address the issue of who is to blame. Easy โ the people behind the attack. Lasse, the maintainer of xz, was the target of a patient intelligence campaign that invested more resources into subverting him than anyone invested into his project.
Another book bites the dust! This one a recommendation from @voidmaze. A super useful book for my new, vastly more diverse workplace but a book I am leaning on quickly even for intersections with colleagues, teams and vendors โ for a bunch of professional relationships.
@Noahpinion I am still bemused at the anchoring of politics in a direction (left and right). In lieu of a discussion of the issues (or even sound bytes), it's degraded into Red vs Blue tribalism.
@mattyglesias Tbh for me it is not a question of "can I", it is a question of "is it the best for me". So far, the US brings substantial risks to my stability, and the work culture limits my benefiting from a lot of its natural splendor.
There are other places with better tradeoffs.
