Typical neighborhoods in Berkeley and Hannover.
It looks like Berkeley is denser, right??
It's not even half as dense as the Hannover neighborhood.
Central Berkeley: ~16,000 / sq mi, ~12 units / acre.
Linden-Nord: ~43,000 / sq mi, ~41 units / acre.
And this is because 93% of housing units in the Hannover neighborhood are in buildings with 3+ units, where as Berkeley is mostly single-family homes.
The thin perimeter block apartments create neighborhoods that are denser yet greener than the single-family neighborhoods.
I spoke with my friend Mitch McConnell, the senior senator from Kentucky, for 20 minutes this morning and he told me he supports the elimination of minimum parking requirements across the United States calling them a "relic of a bygone era." I thanked him for his support.
