It's Friday, the sun is shining, and we're about to wrap up the first week of @bowelcanceruk's new campaign, 'Tell Your GP Instead'.
Over a year in the making, this isn't your usual cancer awareness campaign...
🧵
@REDactionAFC Felt like this was the chant I heard the most today and it made me cringe every time. Who cares about that lot on a day like today?
A lot of kids seemed to start it off too but I assumed that was just to take the opportunity to say a naughty word out loud.
@Stillmanator I wasn't at the game but listened to the match on Five Live. Interestingly, the commentators praised that the crowd lifted the mood in the minutes leading up to the penalty. There was a lot of fan noise coming through the radio too.
@GyokeresThings @thebottomcorna But he's in the autumn of his career and has had injury issues. I don't think anyone can say it's just about playing football when that would mean being forced to give us a lucrative contract that would support him and his family.
@CRUKCymru@CR_UK So sad to hear this news. Sophie was a wonderful colleague. I can only agree with everything written here. She had such dignity about her diagnosis and was driven with incredible purpose to make a difference. My thoughts with her loved ones and colleagues at this difficult time.
1 in 4 Brits don’t track their poo, even though it’s a free daily health check.
As a part of the next phase of our incredible partnership with the team at Andrex we’re encouraging everyone to ‘Look Back and Track’ 🚽

Yesterday, our team visited our #GetOnARoll partner, @coopuk at their headquarters in Manchester 🧻
We spoke to hundreds of Co-op employees about the signs and symptoms of #BowelCancer. As well as hosting two awareness talks so the team could learn more about the disease including the screening programme and risk factors.
We’re so grateful to the Co-op team for their incredible continued support. Get in touch to explore how we might be able to make a difference through partnership together: https://t.co/SQWZe3Zi4w
It’s #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth and we’re launching our #PassItOn campaign.
Today we’re passing on this key message. Having symptoms doesn’t always mean you have #BowelCancer. But it’s still important to find out what’s causing them.

Celebrating 25 million trees milestone in Mbale, Uganda by planting a tree with @LitchardPrimary today! 🌳
Dathlu carreg filltir o 25 miliwn o goed yn Mbale, Uganda trwy blannu coeden gyda @LitchardPrimary heddiw!

A huge diolch to everyone at @LitchardPrimary for welcoming the Deputy First Minister along with @KerryMP, Climate Minister in @energygovuk🙌
@Huw4Ogmore loved watching the pupils’ climate presentation, hearing about their work with @SizeofWales, & the delicious, healthy lunch!
74,000 cancer patients waited too long for cancer treatment in 2024, & incidence is increasing. @bowelcanceruk we're speaking with #OneCancerVoice in signing this letter to @thetimes Behind that stat are people and their families with so much to live for and no time to waste.
We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for our early diagnosis project grants 📝
If you have a research proposal to improve early diagnosis of #BowelCancer in the UK, apply now for up to £165k for a 2-3 year project.

Fairly certain we're safe from the prospect of AI turning into Skynet. Tonight, I asked Gemini to come up with suggestions for movies that could work well for a 40th birthday celebration.
Its best option was The 40 Year Old Virgin!
NHS staff in Wales work so hard to provide the best care they can for cancer patients. And yet, we are seeing lack of progress in improving early diagnosis, long waiting times, and missed opportunities to innovate. This has to change. Patients are counting on it. #cancercantwait
This morning's @WalesAudit report on cancer in Wales is troubling. It shows how things simply aren't moving in the right direction, with a lack of clear leadership. As a result, patients are being let down.
Two things really stand out for me... 🧵

Bowel screening has been a plus point recently. Then you see this stat and realise just how much there is still to do.
Given screening is the best tool to pick up the earliest (most treatable) bowel cancer, this isn't good enough.
