I'm very excited to say my book "How #Kant Matters for #Biology" will soon be published! The thread below explains some of the key issues dealt with. I'm essentially resituating Kant in relation to biology, especially with key figures in the develop of biology in the in Britain.
I discuss how Kant’s political philosophy potentially offers support to #universalhealthcare. I then consider how science and technology studies (#STS) are essential for a more robust approach toward #biomedicalethics. /2
My latest short article, The Relevance of Kant's Philosophy for Contemporary Ethics, is out now! Get free access until July 17th: https://t.co/UzXendLBMz
Abstract below.
I consider the limitations of #principlism and consider how elements of #Kant’s philosophy can support #medicalethics. I highlight the difference between the medical profession and other jobs. /1
Want to hear me discuss some ideas from my book, How Kant Matters for Biology? ...Look no further!
Thanks to @anitaleirfall for sharing this recording of my discussion on Converging Dialogues, I didn't know it was also on YouTube!
It was a privilege to work with @RayChanKW1 on this chapter exploring how #ecotheology and #argoecology can offer new perspectives on farming. https://t.co/GWqNPvc8Pb
Happy to make dialogue @andyjonesphd between theology & human Geog on the biological accounts of theology & religion on the one side, & immunology on the other by examining the stances from Foucault+Derrida. If you’re interested, pls check out our paper: https://t.co/BKuWNbhIMq

It's so nice to see this special on Kant and Natural Science finally out in print. It was a pleasure to work with @andrew_j_cooper and all our contributors to make this happen. Hopefully, we've done justice to such an important issue in Kant scholarship!

It was my privilege to write this article with @andrew_j_cooper. We look at how aspects of work on #Kant and #NaturalScience have developed, before turning to an assessment of appeals to Kant in biological and suggestions for new directions for research. Link below #OpenAccess

@Fakecongirl@xavierbonilla87 Would definitely be up for a chat!! From my perspective, I think there is an important distinction between biology as what we are capable of thinking about the world, and biology as some kind of mind independent truth. That's not to deny the explanatory power of biology for us.
It was really cool to be invited onto the #CovergingDialogues podcast with @xavierbonilla87 ! We spoke about some themes in about my book, drawing on some of the connections with my work on #science and #religion . https://t.co/594zSGcJYT
@Fakecongirl@xavierbonilla87 Thank for listening!!! It's really interesting to think about how biology shapes us, but also how we shape biology, hopefully taking a Kant inspired perspective helps open up these ideas. Kant definitely is weird though 😅😅
@multiplicityCT Thanks @multiplicityCT. Whewell is definitely not given attention as he deserves. I remember reading Laura Snyder's Philosophical breakfast club and thinking how good it was as an introduction to Whewell and his contemporaries working in Cambridge.
This was such a great experience. Thank you @xavierbonilla87. I was pretty unwell when we recorded this, hopefully it doesn't come across too much in sound or context 😅
And it's real! 🥳 Kant and the Transformation of Natural History, the major work of my @LeverhulmeTrust ECF. Thanks to the brilliant @OUPPhilosophy for bringing a few of my thoughts on Kant and 18th century science to life 🚀
