I’ll never forget the first time I walked into a classroom as an instructor. I realized that I could say ANYTHING and people would just… believe me.
Intoxicating.
Before being a prof, I was just some annoying know-it-all. Now, having answers is… expected?
PhDs folks: What specific experiences did you have during grad school that made a meaningful difference to your later career? Maybe ones you didn't realize would be meaningful at the time.
On March 31, 1915, the Justice Bell was celebrated in a ceremony in Troy, NY at the Meneely Bell Company where the 2,000-pound bronze bell was cast. The Bell travelled through all 67 PA counties and then to Chicago and Washington, DC. #WomensHistoryMonth#justicebell#vote
@NateWorthington I have heard the (bad) interpretation that “well David wasn’t removed from office for his sins so neither should [insert favorite politician]”
Minimizing what David did makes more sense to me given that (weird and false) argument.
@SamObiWon Spent time on it this morning after seeing this. Thanks!
2 thoughts: if the passage used “he”, I wonder if people would say “this passage is about being a small business owner”, not “this is a template for all men”.
Also: v17 and 30 made me think of Rosie the Riveter.
@mwmkaouer I spent some time seriously developing the idea of RejSer: the worship on Rejected Papers in Software Engineering. I can show you my ideas sometime
@amyfritz Oh awesome!! Yes it’s my favorite language, partly because of the language, but also the community. Some nice people who love to work hard at simplicity. Good luck to your husband at the new job!!
@amyfritz Yeah it didn’t seem problematic at the time, since “being part of the solution” is something I interpret pretty broadly. But in retrospect I can see how our church might situate itself as “the solution” and abuse the spirit of that saying.
