The underlying story of the past few days is billionaires became richer, working people became poorer & politicians will blame it on immigrants & foreigners. Textbook.
Thank you so much for the huge wave of support and encouragement that has enveloped us. Thank you for the messages, letters and emails. We are so thankful and continue to feel very lucky. Onwards!
Why were the statues on Easter Island built? No one is sure. What is sure is that over 900 large stone statues called moais exist there. The Rapa Nui (Easter Island) moais stand, on average, over twice as tall as a person and have over 200 times as much mass. It is thought that the unusual statues were created about 600 years ago in the images of local leaders of a vibrant and ancient civilization. Rapa Nui has been declared by UNESCO to a World Heritage Site. Pictured here, some of the stone giants were imaged last month under the central band of our Milky Way galaxy. Previously unknown moais are still being discovered.

This is not good news for cycling in the UK.
Firstly, I'd like to say that there are a lot of passionate cycling fans working at WBD, in front of and behind the scenes. The company is automatically 'disliked' by a cohort of the general public because it's a huge international conglomerate, but Eurosport have been showcasing cycling since 1991. They have, and continue to do a hell of a lot for our sport.
On the flip side, exclusivity on the biggest race in the world, the ONLY race where non-cycling fans might tune is, is very worrying. It's a significant barrier to entry into what is already a relatively niche sport in the UK.
ITV not only do a fantastic job themselves of broadcasting the race, live and with easily accessible highlights, they provide a gateway to WBD. The fans they 'convert' each July are more likely to subscribe to Discovery+/Max/Eurosport once they've realised how amazing our sport is. They must have made lifelong cycling fans of millions of people over the last few decades (including me).
Anyway, I really feel for Ned, Dave, Pete, Matt, Daniel, Gary and all the others behind the ITV production - thank you for all you've done for the sport.
@harrym_vids Na, it's a great video, Harry. Thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I have enjoyed the all the Countach anniversary adventures. (I suspect YouTube assesses these things on very narrow criteria). Keep up the good work.
On June 28, 2009, British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking hosted a party for time travelers at the University of Cambridge. Hawking arranged balloons, champagne, and snacks for his guests but only sent out the invitations the following day, after the event had already passed.
The party took place at Gonville and Caius College on Trinity Street (52° 12' 21" N, 0° 7' 4.7" E) at 12:00 UT on June 28, 2009. In anticipation, Hawking expressed hope that copies of the invitation might survive for millennia, allowing someone from the future to find it and use a time machine to attend, thereby proving time travel possible.
Hawking waited in the room for several hours, but no visitors appeared. He humorously considered the event as "experimental evidence that time travel does not exist."
I wrote about the many ways that Israel has made trauma a weapon of war.
About how this exploitation betrays the victims of the past.
And creates many more victims in the present.
It was hard to write. It will be hard to read.
I hope it helps. https://t.co/ENQLh35YFw
I’m not buying this line of argument. Johnson knew, as everybody in the Conservative Party knew, that the Brexit referendum was about heading off the (over-stated) electoral threat from UKIP and simultaneously dealing with a fringe group of MPs in the party who were a distraction and wouldn’t shut up. Nobody, Johnson included, thought the country would actually vote for it. There was never going to be a White Paper because nobody sensible could think of anything to put in it. The expectation was that the electorate would sort the Conservative Party’s internal squabbles out for them by decisively rejecting it and all would be well. As an aside, we have the choice of continuing with this failed non-policy or not, and the current government have chosen to continue with it. I would love to see a White Paper laying out the case for staying out of the single market and customs union.
Absolute chaos in the Highlands of Scotland as monoglot English speakers' brains are fried by bilingual signs in Gaelic and English. It is believed the signs cause around 30,000 accidents a month. English-only speakers are asked to stay away from the area.

NEW: Kate Forbes, Scotland's Deputy FM with responsibility for Gaelic, has responded to Andrew Marr's comments about the language - after he said some signage is 'offensive'.
'If one of Scotland’s languages isn’t welcome here in Scotland, where will it be welcome?”' she asked.
