@Max_VWDV@CamUniGeography@EarthSciCam Delighted for you what this means for the future! Wishing you exciting journeys, real and within the mind, en route to answering critical questions in this century of the geosciences.
And let's keep an Act 2 together in mind.
Mr. Houston - my math student teacher years ago - is up for 2023 Minnesota Teacher of the Year! And he's one of two from @Harding_Knights.

SAFL grad student @MohammadaliOly1 uses a hyperspectral spectroradiometer to detect the spectral reflectance signatures of plastic. Mohammad & advisor Ardeshir Ebtehaj hope to equip drones with these sensors for quick & inexpensive detection & cleanup of plastic in water bodies.
@JamesMLea Exactly the point. There is some very good science in first-round submissions to any journal. The difference is that @MDPIOpenAccess usually provides a farce of Editorial and reviewer oversight, so it's practically a community-sourced pay-to-play blog.
This is not a faculty or a research position, but it can be a very fun job if you like big experimental facilities, SAFL is a playground for the curious minds
I hit the wrong key, my Twitter messages popped open, and this. Exploratory conversation about using ancient DNA to map past Manoomin (Wild Rice) extents in MN (my childhood home) and WI (hers).
I miss you, my friend.
I don't think I've shouted to the stars loudly enough. @KerryLCallaghan dodged and weaved as I learned how to be her advisor in real time. After a postdoc at @LamontEarth with the fantastic @j_austermann, she is now Prof. Callaghan and my MSP-CHI neighbor!
Very strong temperature gradient at the water free surface (not frozen, so about 2-4C) and air, about -20-25C). Add wind and, yes, you have a relatively-hot tub with plenty of heat and moisture fluxes: a natural fog - cloud generator
New Year's resolution? Apply to UMN!
With understanding that many of you are on holidays: Please feel free to contact me if you may need an extra day or two to submit. (Also, Jan 2nd is a federal holiday: oops!)
Our aim is to request letters by the end of this week.
Would you be our next new colleague? @UMNEarthScience is searching in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Earth-surface Processes.
Any questions? I can take them.

I would love to hire a quality machinist for my lab -- but can't afford it. And as a professor, I encounter students who would excel in a hands-on environment.
Tactile intelligence is intelligence.
Spatial intelligence is intelligence.
We're a month out from reviewing faculty applications in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Earth-surface Processes @UMNEarthScience. (Think @saflumn too!) If you want to talk about the search in person, I will be at #AGU22.

It was great to learn from Sara Holger, lead interpretive naturalist at @mndnr's Whitewater State Park! Sara spoke with @andywickert, Jimmy Wood & @shantisbp during a panel discussion before giving a seminar on the Whitewater River Valley - and the towns there that disappeared.
What is #COP27? I don't want to assume everyone knows so let's take some time to break it down ... COP stands for Conference of the Parties and it is an international meeting of the "parties" or states that are in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
