INDURANI JAKHAR: IAS WHO DIDN’T CHOOSE EASY BATTLEGROUND

Some IAS officers begin their careers in comfortable cities.

Dr. Indurani Jakhar began hers in Maoist-Naxals dominated Gadchiroli.

Think about that for a moment.

Gadchiroli is one of Maharashtra’s most remote, forested and historically Maoist-affected districts—an area where administration itself can be a challenge because of difficult terrain, poor connectivity and the long shadow of Naxalism.

And this young woman IAS officer didn’t simply “serve a posting” there, She went to the grassroots.

Her responsibilities included working with the Madia and Gond tribal communities, improving livelihoods, involving local people in development projects and encouraging tribal children towards education.

But perhaps the most fascinating part was her approach to education.

Instead of limiting development to classrooms and government files, she helped organise an educational exposure trip for tribal children from Gadchiroli to Bengaluru and Kochi—children for whom the world outside their remote surroundings could otherwise have remained a distant dream.

And....she did this in an area where even Police Officers don't want posting.

That is what real administration looks like- "Not merely building infrastructure,
Building aspirations."

Not merely sending government orders, Taking the State to people who live at its most difficult frontiers.

And remember the environment.

Gadchiroli is not a metropolitan district where an officer can finish the day's work and disappear into the comfort of an urban ecosystem. It is a tribal, forested region that has faced a serious Maoist challenge for decades. Even today, official and judicial records describe parts of Gadchiroli as remote, densely forested and unsafe.

Yet this was where Dr. Indurani Jakhar began making her mark.

A woman. A doctor-turned-IAS officer. A young administrator. And posted into one of Maharashtra's most challenging districts.

She chose the difficult terrain.

She chose the difficult communities to reach.

She chose the difficult problems to solve.

And she chose development as the weapon of administration.

Today, she has gone on to serve in major responsibilities including Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad, MAVIM, KDMC and now as Collector of Palghar. Her career has increasingly acquired a reputation for discipline, transparency and an uncompromising approach to administration.

But perhaps the most important chapter of the Indurani Jakhar story began far away from Mumbai's skyscrapers.

It began in the forests of Gadchiroli.

Where the roads were difficult.

Where the terrain was unforgiving.

Where the Naxal shadow was real.

And where an IAS officer decided that the people living there deserved not less governance—but better governance.

That is not just a career posting. That is where an officer earns her legend.

But.... question still remains. Why is no media giving her attention? Why are no podcasters calling her for podcasts? Why are no long posts written on her on Twitter? Why no reels on her on Instagram? She doesn't have money or she doesn't have political ambitions?

She's also trusted officer of CM Devendra Ji. Then why aren't RWs making her also a Hero?

मैं पूछना चाहता हूँ, 1896 से 1937 तक हर बार कांग्रेस पूरा गा रही थी, तो 1937 में क्या हुआ जो काट दिया?

मुस्लिम लीग और जिन्ना ने कहा कि आपको यह वंदे मातरम् काटना पड़ेगा, आप एक के बाद एक सरेंडर कर रहे थे। 1905 में बंग-भंग के बाद उस समय सारे हिंदू-मुसलमान एक होकर वंदे मातरम् गाते थे, मगर ये कट्टरपंथियों के आगे झुक गए।

1916 के लखनऊ कांग्रेस अधिवेशन में मुसलमानों के लिए पृथक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र माँग लिया। फिर उनकी हिम्मत और बढ़ी।
फिर 1920 में इन्होंने कहा,
टर्की का खलीफा हट गया है, तो अब हम टर्की के खलीफा के लिए आंदोलन करेंगे और महात्मा गांधी ने अली का समर्थन किया।
उनकी हिम्मत और बढ़ गई। उसके बाद जिन्ना ने कहा, मैं महात्मा गांधी को महात्मा नहीं बोलूँगा। इसलिए हर फिल्म में मिस्टर गांधी बोलता है।

फिर उसने कहा, मैं वंदे मातरम् नहीं गाऊँगा और मैं इनको बताना चाहता हूँ, कोई दर्शक जाकर चेक करे।

6 अप्रैल 1938 को नेहरू को जिन्ना ने एक लेटर लिखा और Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru, Series One, Volume 22, Page Number 230 से 239 में लिखा है। क्या शर्मनाक लेटर लिखा है। लिखते हैं, हमने वंदे मातरम् हटा दिया है। पॉइंट नंबर नौ पर। फिर उसके बाद लिखते हैं, पॉइंट नंबर 12 पर, अगर आपको तिरंगे से आपत्ति है, तो हम मुस्लिम लीग के भी झंडे को बराबर सम्मान देने को तैयार हैं। और पॉइंट नंबर सात पर लिखते हैं, मुसलमानों को सरेआम गोहत्या करने का अधिकार होगा। क्या गजब का सरेंडर किया नेहरू ने।

• Prafulla Sen was portrayed as corrupt and eventually removed from power.

• He was widely regarded as an exceptionally honest Chief Minister.

• In his final years, he reportedly lived in extreme hardship and even depended on students for shelter and support.

Is history repeating itself?

• West Bengal is now building a deep-sea port unlike any other such port in India.

• Once operational, it could reduce India's dependence on Sri Lanka and Singapore for maritime trade.

• It could also reduce Northeast India's dependence on Bangladesh.

• Is that why a campaign to malign Suvendu Adhikari has started?

• We admit that, for now, we have failed in our publicity and communication.

• But are we once again falling for propaganda from the Ananda Bazar group and other sections of the media?

• Are we repeating the same mistake that was allegedly made in the case of Prafulla Sen?

• History shows what happened to West Bengal after that.

• We must be careful not to repeat the same mistake again.
