• Since California’s AB 218 passed in 2019 (which dramatically extended the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse claims), LAUSD has faced ~370 claims filed between 2020 and mid-2025.
• Many involve decades-old cases (some from the 1940s–1980s) where the district says it can’t successfully defend itself in court.
• Pre-AB 218, the district had already paid out over $372 million in judgments/settlements from 2012–2024.
