A guy called Wayne has a pod called the radical centrist. He had been at me for a while to come on. Eventually we got together and went back over the territory of @angrynomics. It ended up being a much fresher conversation than I anticipated: https://t.co/gO2VKlcmRa
Enjoy!
And now for something completely different. @Angrynomics spawned a paper with my postdoc Nic and my student Nadav on anger and elections in Italy using fancy data techniques. Turns out anger on Facebook is a good predictor of elections. Podcast n it here: https://t.co/DlbN08O1Rf
In case anyone is looking for a distraction while the hidden depths of the British state come to the surface, here's a podcast I did that crossed @angrynomics with the future of work: https://t.co/0iH86drZfQ
@MkBlyth@angrynomics Cheers, for that. As one of the “precarious” I cannae say it cheered me up, but it distracted me from swearing at the currently ubiquitous royal pish on the radio.
This paper is still work-in-progress. Feedback very welcomed. The Facebook data is from a forthcoming paper on fake news with my friends @michele_ctrl & @volperob_. We still need to integrate the amazing feedback from @jblumenau & @sethkjolly (discussants)
We compute anger on Facebook posts of Italian parties and their leaders ahead of each election. We use 4 methods to look at who
(1) Used most angry words (dictionary approach)
(2) Used most caps lock
(3-4) Used most angry language based on machine learning algorithms
New working paper out!
As Italian elections get closer, @nadav_druker, @MkBlyth and myself wonder what role #anger played in the last Italian elections (2018 and 2013).
Can you guess which party supplied most anger? 😡

My tax lawyer view on Akshata Murthy:
1. Plausible that she is a non-dom
2. Claiming remittance basis isn’t avoidance
3. But it was a choice, and IMO an inappropriate one. Creates a serious conflict for Sunak
4. Damaging for the tax system - “one rule for them, one for us”

For those folks who read about bond markets but never got through the textbook on this stuff, here's a great, short (and funny) primer from Bill Blain's daily newsletter The Porridge - which you should sign up for: https://t.co/Zfnjaebxul
So my latest note draws on work by @JoMicheII plus @angrynomics to define the "supercycle", which reflects the balance of power between labour & capital, the "software" we write into our institutions to tame capitalism https://t.co/ZLyaSr2A1y
ANGRYNOMICS was on @wef's 5 summer reading picks –– just because it's Fall doesn't mean it's too late to check out the full recommendation list! https://t.co/ppxHFvQUuI #EconTwitter@MkBlyth
