There is no automatic deduction under the new tax regime, apart from the income cap of N800,000.

If you earn above N800,000 per annum, your taxes will either be the same as the old tax regime or will go up, UNLESS you buy a personal deduction (Retirement Savings Account, Life Insurance Premium, Mortgage Interest, NHIS, NHF).

e.g. If you earn N1m per annum and make NO DEDUCTION, your tax rate is 3%, but in the old scheme its 5%. But under this new tax regime, your Consolidated Allowances have been abolished.

This means if you don't file a tax return, even if you earn below N800,000 you will still pay a tax.
