Dear Vinesh, It is said that sport is a celebration of human will. I have known that to be true many times in my career but never has it resonated more than today. As I look around me, I see a nation and its people celebrate your unyielding resolve.
You are a fighter – on and off the mat. Through you, we are learning what it means to never lose the fight in us, even as a loss weighs heavily. You embody the true spirit of a warrior.
Not all victories look alike. Some end up as a glittering souvenir in a cabinet but the ones that matter more find their way into the stories we tell our children. And every child in this country will know the champion you are. Every child will grow up wanting to face life with the resilience you have displayed. I thank you for that.
Respect,
Abhinav Bindra

My 9-year-old son Agastya asked a question today and the mother inside me was so happy!
Him: Why we touch elders' feet for blessings?
Me: It's a Hindu ritual called Upasangrahana, symbolizing respect and letting go of ego to receive blessings, knowledge, and love.
Our scriptures prioritize respect in this order:
Spiritual knowledge, moral strength, age, family name and wealth
Even kings bow to spiritual gurus, and traders to aged workers. In the Ramayana, Lord Rama touched Sage Vishwamitra's feet to show respect - which simply means even the lords bow down and touch feet in respect.
I am happy to see my son asking the right questions
I am happy there is a tint of our culture in our everyday lives

VIDEO | Here’s what author Ruskin Bond, who turned 90 on Sunday, said on people perceiving him to be a foreigner.
“They charge extra from foreigners for entering Konark (Sun Temple in Odisha). I said, 'I am not a foreigner, I am an Indian', but then to avoid an argument I paid extra. And behind me came a sardar ji, he had a British passport but they let him in. He wasn't charged extra because he didn't look like a foreigner.”
