The BIOMEDICA 2026 journey comes to a successful close in Lucknow!

NMMTA sincerely thanks the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Lucknow, for partnering with us and making this event possible.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the civil writ petition filed by the National MSc Medical Teachers' Association (NMMTA) in the Delhi High Court.

The petition challenges the discriminatory and prejudiced policies of the National Medical Commission (NMC) that undermine the interests of teachers with MSc and Ph.D. qualifications in medical sciences.

Despite waiting for four years for justice, the only outcome has been a series of postponed hearings and delays.

This ongoing litigation highlights the challenges faced by medical educators who are seeking fair recognition of their academic qualifications and professional contributions.

We remain committed to advocating for policies that ensure equal opportunities, respect, and fair treatment for all teachers with medical MSc/Ph.D qualifications.

At the same time we request @PMOIndia @MLJ_GoI to amend the necessary laws to bring improvements in the way our judiciary functions so that the aggrieved receives timely justice. @arjunrammeghwal @MoHFW_INDIA

UGC identifies & recognizes our course as MSc (Medical Anatomy/ Biochemistry/ Physiology/ Microbiology /pharmacology) . We failed find any course as MSc Medicine . @MoHFW_INDIA ,@NMMTA_Assn

When it comes to duration of the courses, there is ambiguity, some are 2 years & one is 3 years. So Medical colleges run this with variable time line between 2-3.5 years. which i unjust and @NMMTA_Assn advocates all MSc (Medical) courses to be of 3 years duration as MD courses

MSc Medical Courses were recognized by MCI as per IMC Act. but they silently removed it from the list by deletion. Though UGC continues to recognize the course and thousands of Medical MSc /PhD teachers are working in medical colleges as Faculty members as per NMC/MCI guideline.

As an important stake holder in medical education @NMMTA_Assn again requests @MoHFW_INDIA & @PMOIndia to include medical MSc/PhD teachers in a national register under NMC or give these faculties their own council to maintain the standard , uniformity and integrity of the courses

@NMMTA_Assn strongly condemns the closure of Medical MSc/PhD course by @aiims_gkp on the pretext of draconian @NMC_IND s guidelines. to make it a #ViksitBharat , India's medical education must be at par with the world @PMOIndia . closure is a regressive step.

So it is advisable as a custodian that join any association with care and with full understanding of the facts. choice is yours & call is mine.

Recently it was observed that a professional association indulged in one sided mud slinging with NMMTA & ACBM. So as a responsible custodian it is my duty to bring some facts in front of you. The discussion will be with reference to compendium of UGC regulations 1957 – 2023.

Discrimination based on perceived differences occurs everywhere, but academia should be the last place for it—yet, sadly, it is prevalent.

In many countries, there is encouragement for the participation of teachers from diverse academic backgrounds, but in India, "pride and prejudice" drive policy.

In the UK, for example, the NHS includes 50% laypersons as members, but in India, the NMC is overwhelmingly dominated by the medical community.

As a result, a body that is "of the doctors, by the doctors, and for the doctors" operates more like a doctors' welfare association, favoring the medical community while ignoring and discriminating against other, smaller stakeholders.

This form of xenophobia, termed "academic apartheid," must be condemned and discouraged. Equitable treatment is the need of the hour.

Medical education must be shaped by the best minds, regardless of their academic qualifications. These two categories of teachers should complement one another, not compete.

We request the attention of @PMOIndia @MoHFW_INDIA @OfficeofJPNadda @JPNadda in this matter so that the discriminations end forever.

We urge @MoHFW_INDIA to address the unfair disqualification of MSc./Ph.D. teachers from serving as undergraduate examiners under NMC regulations.

Despite court rulings, many universities continue to deny qualified teachers with years of experience their rightful roles. Over 3,000 dedicated educators, some with decades of service, are affected.

Please intervene and direct NMC to amend the GMER guidelines to ensure that all teachers with 3+ years of experience in medical colleges can be appointed as examiners.
