At Facebook, I coined a term called Filipino Product Market-Fit:
Every year a product manager would observe their new product getting intense adoption in the Phillipines and proclaim their idea was working. Directors would quickly staff the team and alert their VPs of the newfound discovery—only to find out that the pattern was not reproducible in other countries.
The Philipines has one of the highest time-spent online in the world and they will try literally anything for a few days.

actually lemme walk yall thru how i've worked through my own versions of these feelings, ie a realtime rerun of past introspection.

A: "I am a failure"
B: "what makes me say that?"
A: "i am not achieving the results I am supposed to be achieving"
B: "ok, two paths here. (1) where do these expectations come from, and are they reasonable? (2), can we get better results? do we know how? what are the next steps?"
A: 1. "family, friends, society... i don't know if they're reasonable, but it's not like i can realistically get away from them anytime soon..." 2. "probably, i'm not very sure, idk, work smarter I guess..."
B: 1. "when did you last have a conversation with specific individuals about the expectations you're dealing with?" 2. "what does working smarter look like? how are you currently allocating your time and energy? what specific outcomes do you want to make progress towards?"

Ek toh for this UPSC exam half the country's youth in it's prime age spends time mugging up random facts.

Then the outcome of the process is

1. most people going back to their old career paths, losing few years
2. tiny fraction getting through only to turn into corrupt bureaucrats
3. even tinier fraction of that trying to remain honest and being transferred every year
4. steady stream of suicides from that pool of students

Then some media company comes and "nostalgia-fies" this and mints money turning this into a template and churning out 5 different TV series out of it, which mostly is being watched by the same people who should probably not be watching TV but studying for the said exams 🤡
