Typical of WTTW: The station is always looking for opportunities to discredit the Chicago Police, even if it means presenting sloppy research.

CWB points out that WTTW’s report of the soaring number of complaints against CPD since 2022 omits the fact that only 4% of the complaints were sustained by COPA.

It’s no secret that Chicago media outlets, including WTTW, have made police reform a cottage industry, and with Chicago reflexively paying out hundreds of millions of dollars in police lawsuits, complaints about police would grow.

Last year, WTTW published a piece claiming police shootings were up, yet failed to point out that the are a fraction of what they were a decade earlier. WTTW went with this narrative despite the fact that attacks on police with a firearm have increased fourfold in the last decade.

This would suggest great restraint on the part of the police, but reporting on this would undermine the anti-police narrative.

In an effort to stand above the rhetoric and political performances, I have sent a letter to .@POTUS Donald Trump urging him to accomplish what no administration has been able to do in nearly forty years: immediately pardoning and granting amnesty to all noncitizens with a clear criminal record for the past ten years.

The letter serves as a roadmap moving the country forward, lifting the Trump Administration above the performative politics on both sides of the aisle, giving President Trump the opportunity to secure our borders, secure our communities, and enforce the laws enacted by Congress.

I offered a dual track approach addressing both the 13 million long-term undocumented as well as the 11 million migrant asylum seekers that crossed the border during the Biden/Harris Administration.  My solution, should President Trump concur, can move the entire country forward while allowing him to remain true to his convictions and campaign pledges, permits the continued removal of the most dangerous, violent noncitizens across the country.

First, I propose that long-term undocumented noncitizens be granted pardon and amnesty by President Trump if individuals have clean criminal records for the last ten years as well as a proposed $2,500 “fee” for eligible individuals, exempting all DACA-eligible applicants.

For immigrant communities like mine, this will enhance public safety for both citizens and non-citizens.  Based on President Reagan’s amnesty, we can expect roughly two-thirds of the noncitizen residents to come forward, giving a clearer, more defined scope of operations for Immigration & Customs Enforcement across the nation.

I additionally propose that .@DHSgov .@Sec_Noem increase asylum merit hearings to determine if individuals have grounds for pursuing asylum and, if not, immediately return them to their country of origin.

Individuals found deficient in either situation would remain targets for .@ICEgov agents.  Either pathway would allow millions to transition into the formal economy, lifting wages, creating jobs, and expanding tax bases at every level of government.

Democrats & professional activists have given up on the conversation that creates pathways for legalization for noncitizen residents, instead committing to a path of permanent resistance to Donald Trump. It is time to refocus our efforts to push for amnesty and citizenship now.  If we separate those that have proven themselves as positive contributors to our country from those that have not, I feel much of the rage and resistance will come to an end.

I believe President .@DonaldTrump can bring us closer to the goals I stated.
