When #Uttarakhand’s indigenous Rung community stopped a group from installing a Shivling near #OmParvat , which they consider sacred, the dispute was about far more than an idol. The Rungs, who worship #Shiva in the form of #mountains and #rivers of the #Himalayas, feared the installation would mark the beginning of a larger transformation, which would erode their centuries-old traditions and turn a sacred natural landscape into a commercial pilgrimage site.

As part of the Indian Army’s community connect initiative, students of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University took part in a remarkable field visit titled “Rann Bhoomi Darshan”, conducted in conjunction with the #ManaFestival2025 in the sacred frontier village of #Mana – the First Village of India. This immersive journey was aimed at blending education, patriotism and heritage consciousness in the youth of #Uttarakhand.

After participating in vibrant cultural festivities with local communities and soldiers at #Mana, the students travelled to the #Malari sector and #Auli, to witness the life, legacy and grit of our soldiers deployed in the Garhwal Himalayas. From interactions with soldiers to spiritual and historical touchpoints, the visit left an indelible mark on young minds.

This initiative embodies the #IndianArmy’s vision to ignite patriotism among the youth, strengthen their awareness of India’s borders and foster a deep sense of connection with the Indian Armed Forces. Rann Bhoomi Darshan is not merely a journey to the nation’s edges, it is an awakening of spirit, pride and belonging, where young minds witness the courage that safeguards our sovereignty.
