I had the privilege of participating in a photoshoot with Ankita Jaiswal, Founder of Brio Art House, celebrating India's rich textile heritage. Wearing a handcrafted sari showcasing the timeless weaving traditions of Varanasi, complemented by the intricate Aari and Zardozi craftsmanship of Lucknow, was a memorable experience. For Sri Lankans, Varanasi and nearby Sarnath hold a special place in our shared civilizational and Buddhist heritage. With the badges of Naman Kissan 🙏🏻we started with a zeal .

As the Chairperson for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, and someone who deeply believes in our traditional crops and culture & working as a family with thousands of respected farmers taking the lead in empowering farmers - under the visionary leadership of Dr. Roshan Jacob Ma’am - Divisional Commisioner - was truly a fulfilling experience.

This session was an eye-opener. Despite our city being recognised as a UNESCO Gastronomic City, iconic mango varieties like Daseshri ,which are much tastier than many globally known ones, remain under-promoted and underutilized, especially for tourists and even within our own hospitality sector.

The fact that the mangoes grown just a few kilometers away are not making it to the plates of our hotels and restaurants - while being exported elsewhere - shows a huge gap.
Bridging this gap, starting with the hospitality industry, is just the beginning.
Glad to commit myself to taking this movement beyond hotels - into tourism experiences, retail, and public awareness.
This session included powerful and insightful talks from the Commissioner, respected directors from Horticulture and Food Safety, and our very own Chief Development Officer (CDO) & the Chairperson of UPHRA & HRANI - papa 🇮🇳💪🧿

This is not just a step - it’s a revolution towards fair trade, a sustainable future, and honest business practices that make our farmers actual entrepreneurs.

In a world obsessed with perfect images, these crafts speak louder — rooted in purpose, resilience, and heritage.

Madhur Khati mat-making from Sabang, Paschim Medinipur (West Bengal) is a women-led craft where women are involved in every step — from preparing raw materials to weaving detailed patterns.
While men may assist with harvesting or marketing, it's the women artisans who preserve and pass down this tradition through generations 👩‍🌾🧶
Despite challenges, they persevere — driven by passion and the pursuit of economic independence.
Every time I meet such talented artisans, I’m reminded of the magic and soul of our country 🇮🇳✨

Happy to be part of a powerful and purpose-driven session under the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) @wep_community , under @NITIAayog which brought together women leaders, visionaries, and changemakers all working toward building a more inclusive, sustainable future for women entrepreneurs across India.

I was deeply inspired by Maninder Kaur-Dwivedi @mkaurdwivedi , Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, whose visionary insights on strengthening women’s participation in agricultural supply chains truly resonated with me. Her emphasis on inclusive development and creating real ground-level impact reminded us all of the importance of integrating policy with empowerment.

I also want to express my heartfelt respect and admiration for Anna Roy Ma’am @annaroy9 , Senior Advisor and mission Director WEP at NITI Aayog, whose leadership and dedication continue to shape the WEP platform into a thriving ecosystem for women entrepreneurs. Her unwavering commitment to mentorship, opportunity creation, and scalable support systems is building a stronger future for countless women-led ventures.

As the Chairperson of North Sustainable Tourism & Responsible tourism , director to hotels & founder of Brio Art House, I am happy to add value around sustainability, eco-tourism, and cultural preservation. It’s my ongoing mission to empower grassroots women entrepreneurs with environmentally conscious and culturally rooted models of enterprise.
