The presidents of @Harvard, @MIT, and @Penn were all asked the following question under oath at today’s congressional hearing on antisemitism:
Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate [your university’s] code of conduct or rules regarding bullying or harassment?
The answers they gave reflect the profound moral bankruptcy of Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth.
Representative @EliseStefanik was so shocked with the answers that she asked each of them the same question over and over again, and they gave the same answers over and over again.
In short, they said:
It ‘depends on the context’ and ‘whether the speech turns into conduct,’ that is, actually killing Jews.
This could be the most extraordinary testimony ever elicited in the Congress, certainly on the topic of genocide, which to remind us all is:
“the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group”
The presidents’ answers reflect the profound educational, moral and ethical failures that pervade certain of our elite educational institutions due in large part to their failed leadership.
Don’t take my word for it.
You must watch the following three minutes. By the end, you will be where I am.
They must all resign in disgrace.
If a CEO of one of our companies gave a similar answer, he or she would be toast within the hour.
Why has antisemitism exploded on campus and around the world?
Because of leaders like Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth who believe genocide depends on the context.
To think that these are the leaders of Ivy League institutions that are charged with the responsibility to educate our best and brightest.
On the bright side, our congressional leaders deserve accolades for showing tremendous leadership and moral clarity in their statements, by the questions they asked, and the respectfulness with which they conducted the hearing.
It was a masterclass of how our government and democracy should operate.
If you have time, please watch the entire hearing. Throughout the hearing, the three behaved like hostile witnesses, exhibiting a profound disdain for the Congress with their smiles and smirks, and their outright refusal to answer basic questions with a yes or no answer.
Bombing civilian buildings that serve as sources of rocket volleys, that too after warning reasonably in advance, is “collective punishment.”
But going door to door burning residents alive is somehow “fair retribution.”
This is the hypocrisy that costs the global intelligentsia its credibility, in case it had any to begin with. You keep saying the word peace, but it doesn’t look like you understand very well what it means. Or maybe peace to you is a shorthand for “roll over and submit”?
Well, I have reasons to lean toward the latter given your very ideology revolves around conquest. Of course you want submission. It’s “give us our world dominance or else…” No wonder you struggle to assimilate wherever you secure refuge. No wonder you have conflicts with every culture you come in contact with. And amongst yourselves when you don’t.
But how don’t you see the writing on the wall? You’re not at peace with your neighbors, you’re not at peace with your hosts, you’re not at peace with yourselves. How can you never wonder why? How can’t you see the glaringly obvious here—that peace is antithetical to conquest!
Problem isn’t with the world. Problem is with your collective attitude. The complex that the world is your chattel. The notion that you tread “The One True Path” and the assumption of forcing everyone to walk that path as a personal duty.
Problem is your penchant for violence and destruction. Problem is your celebration of death in a world that likes celebrating life. Problem is your doctrinal resistance to everything the average member of civilization finds joy in. Problem is the tearing urge to control every aspect, every minute of an individual’s life.
Problem is demanding that they be problematic to others as well. Problem is your value proposition.
Problem is the absence of even one life-affirming aspect in your entire doctrine. Even when you celebrate births, it’s with the idea of expansionism and propagation. Problem is your fealty to your doctrine above all human relationships.
Human societies aren’t wired to function like that! If it works for you, great. But why expect it to work for others too?
When non-stakeholders sitting in faraway India and Australia take a keen interest in the goings-on in Gaza, it’s with a deep sense of personal investment. Not because they feel particularly about Israel. Most of us here in India have never seen, heard, or even known a Jew. And perhaps never will. But when there’s news of them in conflict with you, everyone relates. Why? Because on however smaller a scale, everybody in every corner of the world has experienced the doctrinal nuisance that you represent. We can relate with any conflict involving you in a way most of us can never relate with, say, the Ukrainians. Or even Manipuris.
The dangers of your medieval expansionism feel relatable in every geography and in every context. Whoever be on the other side of the line.
I’d beg you to reform. To join us. To participate in civilization. Constructively. But with a gathering sense of gloom, I must say that ship has sailed. Or perhaps never was to begin with. We know you won’t. We know you’ll eventually succeed in dragging the world down “The One True Path” of death, destruction, gloom, and despair. You have the numbers, you have the zeal, and above all, you have the disdain for life necessary for such endeavors. You can afford to die for your cause. You will.
And when you do, one can only hope you realize the futility of it all.
Until that point, however, allow us to at least complain about your insufferable existence. That’s the least we can do. We will. You may call it phobia but it’s our only coping mechanism in the face of your jihadist killing machine.
