"This is yet another major scam by the Modi government, which warrants an investigation"
#Congress leader @Jairam_Ramesh claimed that a foreign company is acquiring #IDBIBank from the government using funds that belong to the bank itself.

The buyer is buying the bank. The bank is expected to buy the buyer's businesses. And the money from the second deal is part of the funding plan for the first. It is a remarkable way to finance a bank takeover.
Yet another story on @IDBI_Bank bank privatisation in @BWBusinessworld
https://t.co/g8FP97tUpw
The government is looking to raise cash and has decided to exit any businesses that it does not need to operate directly. The timing of these sales is deliberate and reflects careful consideration of market conditions: they are being sold now because the bank has recovered from its earlier difficulties and is back in good financial health, which makes the conditions for a sale highly favourable. The government sees the institution as having regained its footing, with stronger earnings, a steadier balance sheet, and renewed confidence among investors and customers alike, all of which help to support a higher valuation. Consider how a homeowner approaches the sale of a property. Most people understand that you sell a house after repairs are completed, not before, because a well-maintained property attracts better offers. Buyers are willing to pay more for a home that is in good condition, since it requires less work, carries fewer hidden risks, and presents a more appealing prospect overall. Selling a home that is in disrepair, by contrast, typically means accepting a lower price, since prospective buyers will factor in the cost and effort of fixing its problems. Similarly, the government has chosen to divest at a time when the institution is strong and its value is higher, rather than selling while it is still struggling and fetching a low price. Selling during a period of weakness would likely have meant accepting a discounted offer that failed to reflect the institution's true worth, and the government would have been left with far less return for taxpayers. By waiting until the bank has stabilised and its prospects have improved, the government is positioned to secure a stronger price, making the sale a more sensible and financially responsible decision.
