Good news for Prepaid Mobile Users in India

The Govt just introduced Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026, consumers will now have:

• 30-day recharge plans, reducing the need for 13 monthly recharges to 12 in a year
• Voice and SMS-only plans for those who do not need data
• More suitable options for low-budget consumers who primarily need basic voice calls

Many of you had shared your concerns with me about limited and inflexible recharge options. I raised this issue in Parliament on 11th March, seeking greater choice and more affordable options for consumers.

I am grateful to the Government of India and TRAI for resolving these concerns in the interest of greater consumer choice and convenience.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "... Numerous effective measures have been taken in the past two and a half months since the paper leak incident. The culprits have been caught and are in jail. Our most important responsibility was to ensure that students' year is not wasted... The government used all its might to ensure that 22 lakh students could take their exams in the shortest possible time. On the 19th July, the results were declared... I directed the departments today to establish a fast-track court. The departments presented me with the resolution late at night. This resolution, along with the provision for a fast-track court and harsh punishment, will be discussed in the cabinet tomorrow. After the suggestions of cabinet colleagues, it will be finalised, and since the second week of Parliament is starting from Monday, efforts will be made to get that bill passed in the House as soon as possible."

Government notifies control order to curb black marketing and hoarding of diesel by unscrupulous elements

✴️Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has notified the "Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Temporary Regulation of Supply through Retail Outlets) Order, 2026" to curb black marketing and hoarding of diesel by unscrupulous elements.

✴️These regulations are temporary measures, initially valid for up to 90 days, ensuring diesel availability to all retail consumers.

✴️The current situation is one of uneven extraordinary demand growth in some retail outlets due to shifting of bulk diesel volume to PSU Oil Marketing Retail Outlets. This is driven by industrial and direct or institutional and commercial consumers who have been shifting their procurement from their dedicated consumer pumps to retail outlets due to the difference between bulk and retail diesel prices.

✴️The other reason is that private Oil Marketing companies’ sales exhibited a decline of around 58% in HSD sales during May 2026 due to higher prices fixed by them.
