This tweet, perpetuates dangerous misconceptions about fertility testing that I witness harming patients regularly in my practice. Not only this OP but many obgyns get lulled into this AMH hype.

AMH testing is being fundamentally misrepresented here. Let me be absolutely clear: AMH levels DO NOT equate to fertility potential. Period.

What AMH actually measures is ovarian reserve—essentially a rough estimate of egg quantity remaining. This is merely one factor among dozens that determine reproductive success.

AMH only measures one aspect of fertility—your ovarian reserve (roughly how many eggs remain). It's like checking how much gas is in your car without examining the engine, tires, or transmission. Having gas doesn't guarantee the car will run properly.

In my three decades treating thousands of patients, I've seen countless women with excellent AMH levels struggle to conceive due to factors completely undetected by this test. Conversely, I've helped many women with very low AMH levels achieve healthy pregnancies.

The clinical utility of AMH testing is specific and limited:
- It helps predict response to ovarian stimulation medications
- It assists in diagnosing certain conditions like PCOS
- It guides treatment protocols for women already experiencing infertility

What AMH explicitly cannot tell you:
- If your eggs are genetically normal (quality declines with age regardless of AMH)
- If your fallopian tubes are functional
- If your uterus is receptive to implantation
- If hormonal factors support conception
- If your partner's sperm is viable

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine, does not recommend AMH as a screening test for women without fertility concerns. This is not controversial among specialists.

I've counseled too many devastated patients who delayed childbearing based on reassuring AMH results, only to discover other fertility obstacles later when treatment options were more limited.

Genuine reproductive empowerment comes from comprehensive assessment and personalized counseling—not from a single blood test that provides incomplete and potentially misleading information.

True "clarity" about fertility requires nuanced understanding, not simplified metrics that create false confidence. This tweet, despite good intentions, promotes exactly the kind of reductive thinking that reproductive specialists work daily to correct.
