This morning at 2:31 a.m., @CFD_Alarm began receiving multiple calls for an apartment fire at the 7600 block of Holliswood Ct. Engine 26 arrived on scene at 2:35 a.m. and reported heavy fire showing from a 3-story apartment building. Battalion 5 took command at 2:36 a.m. and called a Second Alarm at 2:41 a.m. to bring additional resources to the scene. Five civilians and one firefighter were evaluated for injuries by MEDIC and were all released. 24 units were affected and 29 people were displaced. Red Cross assisted all families who needed help. Charlotte firefighters rescued multiple pets. Charlotte Fire investigators determined the fire cause was a lit candle left unattended on the balcony of a third floor unit. The fire was determined accidental. Estimated property/content loss $1.4M
Officer Joshua Eyer has passed away tonight from his injuries after being shot in the line of duty this afternoon while assisting other officers with the apprehension of a suspect. Officer Eyer faithfully served the CMPD’s North Tryon Division for six years and was a member of the 178th Recruit Class. We are forever indebted to Officer Eyer for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice. His life and service will never be forgotten.
